‘Mungojerrie & Rumpelteazer’
…….These two strangely named cats are the original mischievous pair! They are tightrope walkers, join of meat stealers and cat burglars all in one. They are however also incredibly endearing and get away with many a crime. This is a poem that perfectly illustrates the way in which cats in general have the ability to get upto all manner of crimes but through the love of their owners are never castigated. This poem also reminds me fondly of the relationship between two of my cats and their ability at times to team up against us mere mortals! Hilarious poem from beginning to end. More……

Mungojerrie and his partner in crime, Rumpleteazer, specialize in petty theft and mischief. Some think of Rumpleteazer either being his sister or his mate. In Eliot's original poem "Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer", they are depicted knocking over Ming vases and stealing items from their human family. Mungojerrie is also mentioned in the poem "Macavity, the Mystery Cat" as being one of Macavity's agents.

……..T.S Eliot is a man who has clearly lived with cats - he understands their foibbles, their habits and their innate strangeness. While we sleep, cats stalk the world, doing much as they please, and this imaginative collection explores the secret lives of cats. Anyone who has ever lived with kittens will find the antics of Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer delightfully familiar. Anyone who has shared a home with an old, dreaming cat will recognise "Old Deuteronomy."…….

To clarify for all of those people saying it's from the musical "Cats"... "Cats" is based on "Old Possums Book of Practical Cats" by T. S Eliot. Mungojerry came fromm the book first, and then he was created as a singing and dancing jellical cat.

If he's from a novel, it's a tribute to his origins in T.S. Eliot Book of Practical Cats (a collection of poems intended for children)
