There are many smart animals, all considered smart for their own special reason.
Dolphins, monkies, elephants, pigs, raven/crows, and pigeons are among the smartest I'm aware of.
And yes, I said pigeons.
Believe it or not, they are very intelligent.
Scientists once did a study on them where they put a block in a tall cage with a pigeon and put food in the top corner of the cage - out of reach of the pigeon.
Of course they made sure it was hungry, couldn't fly to the food, and left it alone. Once the pigeon noticed the food, it pushed the block with its head under the food, jumped on top of the block, and pulled the food down.
I don't see any dogs or cats doing that :\

Well it could be argued that humans possess the greatest ability to communicate. We're also the most scientifically and technologically advanced species on the planet, by a long shot. That said, I don't see why aliens would feel any need to communicate with _any_ species on this planet, humans included. Odds are all but certain that a species advanced enough to master interstellar travel would at a minimum, be eons or millions of years ahead of us. They would be as far advanced and evolved beyond us as we are beyond ants. And how many humans have ever made an attempt to communicate with, or set up diplomatic relations with, a colony of ants? It would be all but impossible to make them understand even our most basic concepts; they may even have extreme difficulty realizing we exist, unless we stirred up their nest, and even then they would only perceive us as some general disruption. So too would it be with a species millions of years ahead of us. They could be all around us without our knowing it, not because they were trying to hide from us but merely because their very existence could be at the fringes of what we are able to perceive. They might exist at the quantum level, or made of dark matter, or be phase-shifted slightly into another dimension. Due to the extremely large energy requirements and inherent difficulties of interstellar travel for what we know as biological beings, I highly doubt any visiting aliens would be of the humanoid variety that is the staple of science-fiction.

Chimpanzees have the most man-like intelligence. The IQ of a dolphin is debatable. After chimps we have other apes.

DNA and how a animal looks have nothing to do with how smart they are. the thing abput people I like. I would say we are the most brain smart but the most comman scence dumb. this is what seperates us from other animals we are the only "evil" ones and have a job to keep "this pleace" going.

actually ur defintion of smart should be looked into...cause if u think humans are smart...then u shunt be asking a question in the first place...cause most humas are simply dumb..
YOu shuould praise ur question as who is having intelligence close to humans....then the answer is chimps/orangotans..their DNA is 98% similar to Humans...Teh other animals whom other answerer are mentioning are animals who are simply striving hard for survival...in that case my rat should be called intelligent...i cudnt catch it from the past 6 months,,, :(
