Hi Brendan,

Congratulations on your new fishie friend.

Your Flake Food canister should have directions on how much and how often to feed your fish.

Usually they say to feed a couple (3) times a day, as much as they can eat in TWO MINUTES time. What they don't eat -you net out and then throw out.

If you feed twice a day - give them what they can eat in Five minutes time. Again - what they don't eat - you net out and then throw out.

The directions should be on the canister. Some types of flake food say two minutes, some say three minutes, some say five minutes. That's why I'm asking you to read the directions on your canister.

You should always read the directions. ALWAYS!

And for variety, your fish will like to get differenty types of food now and then. Try some small pellet types. Try some of the small shrimp (you can break them up if they're too bid). Try some live foods like Brine shrimp or Tubifex worms.

Yes, you are underfeeding. You should feed your fish allt hey can eat in 3-4 minutes twice a day. Try to vary the food as well. Give flakes or pellets for one feeding and some type of frozen food or vegetable for the other feeding.

It all depends on the size of fish. A small 2cm fish can eat about 2 flakes. A bigger fish should eat 3-5 flakes. Watch your fishes eating habits. It really all depends on the fish. Don't worry if one of your fish dies it is quite commen, even if you feed it well or not. I hope i helped!

Yes, I would say that you are vastly underfeeding them. The rule of thumb is to feed the fish everything they can eat in 5 minutes. If there are leftovers, scoop them out with the net.
