I'm just checking whether someone I know was telling the truth, when they said they went to the beach.
And yes, the question includes the moist sand, or the part of the sand which is reached by the waves.

(The whole story is irrelevant to tell here).

Yes of course, they're called sand crabs. The burry themselves in the sand, nest and lay eggs. Next time you go to a beach, look for tiny balls of sand, they're made by the sand crabs.

Lots of different types of crabs live in holes in the sand on a beach. They can be seen scuttling around at low tide. You can also see them in rock pools by the sea and in mud flats in mangrove areas. They are good fun to watch. Go to the beach at low tide and have a look.
