I have a 96 BMW 7 series V8. The "plastic" engine cover with the bmw logo has a tendency to warp & crack from the constant heat of the engine bay. If I take a replica of this part to a body shop; can they reproduce an identical piece with the same exact dimensions out of METAL instead of plastic?

Yes, but it will cost$$$ Why not use Dynamat to shield the cover from heat, you can apply it to the inside of the plastic shroud and it will act as an insulator, you can get this at auto body supply stores, stereo shops, speed shops etc.

It's possible, but If I were you I 'd find a custom hot rod car shop and ask if there are any top shelf sheet metal fabricators who could make you a a great reproduction.

You see, today guys who work in body shops, pull dents, sand , fill or replace body parts. They tend not to be sheet metal "artists".
