I have not long found out that I will be having a baby girl sometime around xmas/new years, and we really need help with names.
We like unusual and uncommon names, so c'mon throw some suggestions our way!!!
So far we have Kalysta, Scarlett or Skye / Skylar.

Kalysta is the top of the list (i think), what do you think. Are we setting her up for mega-teasing at school?

I'm with those who said that uncommon spellings are just setting your kid up for endlessly having to explain how their name's spelt, not to mention inconvenience of getting it changed when people STILL get it wrong. That said, I think everyone's going to ask how to spell Kalysta because it's so uncommon anyway. It's common names spelt oddly which are the main problem, because people don't ask.

Plus think about what possible nicknames she'll end up with, and how you feel about them. Kal or Kallie are sweet. Skye doesn't need shortening.

Scarlett's a lovely name, but I'd steer clear of it if there's any chance your kid will have red hair. And Scar as a shortening...yeurch.

I think its a lovely name.

Its from K/Callisto, right? I slightly prefer the 'o' ending, but the 'a' works nicely too.

It has a lovely meaning 'most beautiful' in Greek, and a good story and I love mythology names!

In case you dont know the story...

Callisto was a nymph of Artemis, the goddess of hunting and the moon, and had taken a vow to remain a virgin. She was seduced by Zeus, king of the gods, and became pregnant. When this was found out, she was cast out, and then gave birth to a son, Arcas. Hera, Zeus's jealous wife, turned Callisto into a bear in revenge for her sleeping with Zeus. Years later, Arcas came upon his mother (in bear form) when on a hunt and nearly killed her, but Zeus intervened and turned them into the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor.

So you've got nymphs, gods, babies, teddy bears and stars. May want to save the seduction bit till she's older!

Callisto is also the name of a moon of Jupiter

As for teasing potential, Kalysta-Blister springs to mind, but you also have Kalysta Sister, which is nice.

Dont worry too much about setting up for teasing- the sad fact is if the kids want to be mean, they will be, unusual name or not.

Finally, I was initially not too sure about the spelling you've chosen.... I prefer the C variations of a lot of K names, but the K is more authenically Greek.

Given the alternatives, I think its a good choice, but like Calysto as well.

I think you are setting her up for a lifetime of problems is you don't spell it right. Calista (or Callista) are the proper spellings. I think the K and Y make it tacky and trendy. Scarlett is beautiful as well. Sky or Skyler are becoming more and more popular so I don't consider them unusual or uncommon at all. I think you should go with Calista, spelled right, if she doesn't like it she could always go by Calie, Lissy, or Lissa. Calista Scarlett is beautiful!! Good Luck and Congrats!

No mega teasin this precious doll would get. However I prefer it spelled with a C, e.g like Calystar. And have you tried checking around some popular babynames sites? E.g. like this one says about your baby girl's name Kalysta -->

While the name Kalysta creates the urge to organize and work with others, we point out that it causes an over-emphasis on material things that frustrates higher humanitarian qualities.

This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the fluid and reproductive organs.

Although your name of Kalysta gives you a good appreciation of material values, business ability, and skill in organizing and managing others, your success is limited at times, by a lack of self-confidence and initiative.

This name brings out a practical, composed quality, with a strong desire for a good standard of living in an environment where you are in contact with distinguished, successful people.

You try to further your interests through pursuing the association of people with influence.

Whatever name you choose I'm sure she will grow up to be your pride & joy & a lovely young lady in future.

Kalysta is very pretty and no she won't be teased. I have a girlfriend with a nealy 2yr old 'Calista'. She is so cute! I also love Scarlett and Skylar too. Any of those will be great. I like your taste! Leave yourself room for change though as you have a while to go (about half way???) and might change your mind.

I really like this name, but do not care for ther spelling. I like Calista or Callista. Kalysta is ultra-trendy looking (with the substitued 'k' and 'y' instead of 'c' and 'i'." )

I love Scarlett (it's my favorite girl name) if you are set on the spelling Kalysta, I'd say go with Scarlett. If you decided on the classy Calista/Callista, then you can't go wrong either way!

Skylar is trendy. I only like Schuyler, for a boy.

Yes I like it but prefer the more traditional way of spelling it Calista, it's very pretty. I also love Scarlett and Skye, but not Skylar.

There are a lot of Skyes and even MORE skylars/skylers being born these days. I wouldn't want my child to have a clone name.

Scarlett is less common, and is pretty.

Kalysta...Nah. It should be spelled correctly...Calista or Callista, and I only think of that anorexic actress flockhart.

Here's my take on these names...

Kalysta: A little too "out there" for my taste. What about Calypso, the name of a Greek princess?

Scarlett: Adorable! My friend just named her daughter Scarlett Rose, I think that's really cute!

Skyler: I prefer the spelling "Schuyler", but a very cute name. My friend's name is Schuyler but she goes by Skye.

All in all, I think Calypso, Scarlett, and Schuyler are all lovely name! Good luck and God bless!
