I want to thank every one for there great ideas.I don't know why I couldn't think of this my self.(Du!) I use an extra long table for sewing to keep them from pulling down while sewing.I will use the same table for tying. Even the sofa was a great idea.

I don't use a frame to tie a quilt, either. I lay it out on my dining room table, since you aren't quilting, you don't need to worry too much about keeping the tension. Then, I can sit in a chair and tie it.

If there is a quilting guild near you, you might join and there would probably be someone with quilt frames who could help you-and you could learn a lot and socialize at the same time. If you don't care to join a guild, then you might find a quilting frame at a Garage sale or you could advertise in the paper-there are hanging ones that pull out of your way or standing ones. It probably wouldn't cost much to make one. the dining room table is okey in a pinch but it is good to use a frame for the tension. You can also go to some quilt sites on the Web and get some good ideas.

I spread it out on a table with the ends hanging over, and let the weight pull it tight. Then roll it from both ends until you have 2 scrolls with only the center is exposed. Tie the center knots, then roll up that section as you unroll towards one end to expose more quilt for tying. Do this til you reach the end, then roll it back up to the center and start out from the center towards the other end.

The dining room table idea is a good one!...

I personally don't have a dining room table though. What I do is pull my couch out a bit from the wall and throw the quilt across the back of it. It's a good space saver!

Have you thought of laying the quilt on a bed to tie it? I do mine this way as there is more surface to smooth the layers out on.
