A friend of mine used one for her youngest baby and she said that it took her longer to sit up on her own that her older children so she said if she had more kids that she wouldn't use it. Babies need to learn to sit up on their own.

I don't have the Bumbo, I have the Bebe Pod, basically the same thing. My son doesn't love it. It can be convenient sometimes, when I just need to run in the bathroom and need to stick him somewhere. He has figured out how to get out of it. He arches his back and tips it over, so yeah, he doesn't really use it anymore (he is almost 6 months, probably gettting too old anyway). My friend swore by hers, they sat her son in it on the table everynight when they ate dinner. She swore it made him learn to sit sooner, but my son learned at the same time and hardly used his. I think some babies like it while others do not! Oh....I forgot to add that my son is chubby 20lbs so his thighs have to be squeezed in it, its probably better for skinnier babies.

Totally!! My baby was 7 weeks preemie, and was delayed until he was about 1 yr old. While in physical therapy I was told that the bumbo was recommended. Boy, it made all the difference in the world. It was the best $40 I ever spent. You can get one on E-Bay for much cheaper, I wasn't willing to wait...good luck!

i might in my opinion wait till you have had your infant and notice then as issues for infant's do upload up! The bumbo became a existence saver for me together as weaning- he became too small for the extreme hair and wasn't sitting upright adequate interior the bouncer. Bumbo is likewise solid for assisting infants to take a seat down upright. solid success :)

Advantages:

-Great for a 'nosy' baby who can hold their head but cannot yet sit and is frustrated by being on their back!

-Excellent early 'highchair' if you start weaning before your baby can sit in a highchair properly

-Easy to clean

-Very portable (again, useless for feeding baby, esp when out and about)

- Last forever, very durable, can use for several babies/ pass on to others

-Can help baby learn to sit

Disadvantages

-Some babies hate being restricted in this way (altho, depending on the baby, they may change their mind once they realise it involves food!)

-Expensive for what they are (check out ebay for a second hand one, as they can easily be cleaned with soap and milton/sterilising wipes

-You will constantly be asked by friends who dont have a baby what it is!! lol

Overall, I would say give it a go, you can always sell it on if your baby decides it's not for them

My daughter fell out of hers and it was horrible. She busted up her mouth really bad and blood was everywhere. We had to rush her to the emergency room. Luckily, she will be all right. I think they are great at first, like around 4 months, then quit using them when the baby can sit up on her own. That was my mistake. It was the worst thing that's ever happened to me. Use these seats with caution! And NEVER put them on a counter or high up, like I did.

my son hated lying down if he was awake, right from an early age. he had an inflatable ring gym but it was huge so not particularly practical.
i bought him a bumbo & he loved it! it did`nt affect him developmently as its supposed to strengthen 7 support their back muscles. its lightweight & easy to transport, if we were going visiting then it was easy to just sling in the back of the car. we used it when we started weaning him & if it got mucky then it was easy to clean.
we only stopped using it once he became mobile, he used to climb out of it! i sold mine on ebay so its maybe worth looking on there for one.

Used one for both my sons - were especially handy when visiting people to use as highchair when feeding. Be careful though 'cos when babes get too big they topple up head first with no warnings! Abit expensive I'd say really - have you looked on ebay for 2nd hand cheaper one?

I got one when my daughter was 4 months and she hated it now she's 9 months and climbs out of it in disgust.
My 3 year old son will play happily with it but I'm not sure if he likes it so much because it's not his!

My son loved his!

It really came into its own as he loved looking around him and couldn't yet sit up. It didn't slow him down from sitting on his own - he wasn't in it 24/7 obviously!

We also used it as a shower seat, we didn't have a bath when he was first born and it was perfect!
