Salvia Divinorum is a psychoactive herb with hallucinogenic effects, not yet illegal in most of the world. Yes, this herb is smokable. No, you shouldn't do it alone, and yes you should weigh the possible physical consequences before doing it.

*I'm pretty sure the asker is NOT referring to spit (saliva) or the garden variety sage, also known by the name Salvia.

First, the toxicology studies done so far show it is non-toxic, BUT there is anecdotal evidence that this plant might cause flashbacks. In other words, yeah, this is a physically safe plant but who knows what the long term impact is?

You smoke it by buying some of the Extract (because smoking the plain leaves will not do much for anybody) and then burning it in a pipe. From what I've read, water pipes are preferable, because the smoke is very harsh. Not only that, but you have to light it at a high temperature to get the active chemical out.

That means using a torch lighter, like something you'd use to light a grill. Yeah, a normal lighter will work too but maybe not quite as well.

You inhale the smoke slowly and hold it in for at least 30 seconds for the best impact.

But have a friend-- a sitter-- around, because people on Salvia don't know what they're doing for about 5 minutes and can harm themselves seriously.

Be aware of the dangers of a substance not well studied, though. Be careful.

Salvia is a member of the sage genus of herbs. I'd recommend using it in cooking. It's wonderful in a nice bread stuffing.
