I have a 10gal tank with 2 Mollies. I know Planaria come from a dirty tank with too much food at the bottom but this doesn't seem to be the case here. I have 2 ghost shrimp that feast at the bottom, also. My 29 gal tank never gets Planaria. I just think the Planaria are disgusting and I heard that guppies will eat them. Is this true?

I used guppy fry to clear a tank of planaria. The hungry little guys eliminated all of them in a week.

Planaria Eating

Generally only larger meat eating fish like cichlids will ever have an interest in eating planaria. Some people have had success with getting larger gourami like blues and golds that eat them, but that's probably pretty rare. Some catfish like Synodontis sp. will most likely eat them as well.

They really are a sign that there is excess food in the gravel and in the tank. By sure you are extremely careful to clean the gravel really well at least once a week to help keep them under control. There are a variety of methods to remove planaria from the tank, so if none of these seem to work for you , feel free to email me and I'll be glad to help.
