50K is a little soon to be rebuilding the engine. The engine must not have been maintained too well. When they say it was rebuilt, what does that mean to them? Are they giving you a warranty with the engine? I would have some questions about the rebuild, like who did it, and what did they do to the engine.
Finally, take the car to your own mechanic and have him look the car over and take compression readings on the cylinders.
If the mechanic says its good, then buy it, if the price is right.

Hi Julianne- I think you might want to pass on this one. Not necessarily because it has a rebuilt engine, 58k on the engine, or because it's 5,800......but because it's only a 2002 model. Sure, sometimes things happen that require major repairs.....but for a relatively young model (compared to some very, very old cars out there still running on all original parts)....I don't think a 2002 model should require a newly installed engine....think of it this way, "what is/was so wrong with the vehicle that required a new engine, the very heart of the vehicle?!?" Besides that, I had a 2000 model Trailblazer LT many years ago.....and with the gas prices the way they are today, maybe you'd be better off with something more economical... Good luck! I hope everything works out well for you.

I agree with fordman, 50,000 is way to early to overhaul this engine, even if a person was driving it really hard. Ask to see some receipts on the parts and labor that was done to it. This will help determine what was actually done to the engine. If the seller says he/she did all the work there should still be receipts for the parts. Open the hood and look for new clean parts and especially gaskets. If this doesn't seem like something you can do ask to test drive the car and take it to a certified mechanic and have him/her look it over for you. GOOD LUCK!!!

There's a big difference between overhauling and rebuilding. Overhauling just means fixing and replacing parts worn beyond their limits. Rebuilding is replacing all parts that are worn at all, or all parts that can wear, and restoring the engine to near new condition.
If it was overhauled at 50k, it's a good sign that the engine has suffered serious abuse.

This is good.A engine rebuild should eliminate any major breakdowns, the type that cost you heaps.Whoever is selling the car,,put them on the spot and ask to see receipts or some sort of proof that the work they say has been done. One thing I've learned purchasing cars is that the salesman like to control the conversation, dont let this happen.Ask him/her to back up there statements with evidence you can see.If they are true to there word they wont have a problem with this.
Good luck with your new wheels and drive safe..

If you don't know what to look at in second cars always take someone with you that is a experienced particularly with the brand you are looking to buy. If you don't like what you see. Walk away from the deal There is always another that will turn up. Ask the agent about that model.
