The entire world cannot go "insane" as the standard for sanity, itself, would be lowered. It is a subjective term to describe those with the least control of their lives within a society. Given the chaotic nature of the world itself, I'd say that the truly sane are those who manage to survive by adapting to such "insanity."

I can venture this:

That a person who is illiterate with a case of
extreme ocular deficiency (in this specific,
let's say one who must wear thick-lensed
glasses in order to function) who is not
wearing them can see 'fuzzies' while
staring at a lightbulb or, a Christmas tree
ornamental light.

With ANY imagination (let's say from the
realm in the brain that nightmares originate)
this person may be able to describe visions
or impressions from a perfectly innocent
disposition.

But if a psychiatrist under the pressures
(read, Greed) of a Pharmaceutical company
gets wind of these descriptions, Voila,
what do you think are the chances that
this "patient" will be diagnosed with
hallucinations?

But it has always been this way.

Those who don't know this flee the
subject or shrug it off.

Those who do either remain sad
or, go into Big Medicine.

You thought Big Tobacco was corrupt.

[ Note: No, I've not seen Michael Moore's
recent production. See, I've been saying
this for years, because it's true.

Merely ONE part of a singular example.

And again, No, I'm not on a crusade.

Just curious, introspective, and think for
myself. Thanks for the Question!

All egos (learned defensive identities) are insane and incapable of accurate perception until the authentic (observing) self wakes up. We lock up those who's insanity has simply crossed a threshold of potential harm.

Those who are actually BEING distructive are acceptable as long as they can rationalize their behavior to other 'sleeping' egos. Waking up is the key and most of the time it takes a sledgehammer.
