I am having a simple cyst removed from my left ovary which is 4cm in sept. I am scared that they may also take my ovary or if the cyst may stop that ovary from working in the future, anybody else know about this ?

Cystoscopy has to do with the bladder, but in relation to removal of a cyst (which can be done with a laparoscope depending on the size of it) if the doctor feels there is the potential for the ovary to be removed he may state that on the consent form for your procedure.

I would recommend getting in touch with your doctor to ask even more questions about what you are getting done.

I have had a cyst drained but not my ovary removed. Let your doctor know that you are really concerned about the possibility of removal of ovary depending on what they find. Removal of ovary will also depend on the kind of cyst found.

I have suffered lots of pain from numerous bilateral cysts since I was 17, I'm 26 now. I was supposed to have a laparoscopy done in 2005 to remove a 7.7cm cyst on my left ovary, but a few days before my surgery, it ruptured causing me the worst pain, so they did an emergency laparoscopy and drained all the fluid from the cyst that ruptured and was all over my insides (my cyst was a simple fluid cyst too). I had to give consent before they performed the surgery as they said that if my ovary got damaged from the cyst rupturing then they might have to remove the ovary, but my ovary was fine and they didn't end up removing my ovary. I'm sure they won't removed yours either unless somehow it is damaged when a cyst ruptures or something. They will probably only drain or remove the cyst.

I agree with what some of the other people have said - it's best that you ask your doctor some more questions before you have your surgery therefore you will be more at ease having the answers to your questions.

I still get cysts, had one in April this year that was a complex cyst 4.7cm but it also ruptured and luckily I didn't need emergency surgery again, just got given antibiotics and some pain med's and a week off from work! I guess the point I'm trying to make is that your ovary will still be working fine after your cyst is removed, however you might still get other cysts in the future. If you're not on the birth control pill and don't have anything against it, you might want to discuss this with your doctor as they are supposed to stop cysts from forming sometimes.

I hope this helps you out a bit and it calms your nerves. Best of luck, I hope it all goes well! :)

I had my right ovary removed in 1989.....3 months later....was pregnant...if thats what your worried about, dont be. I have had 4 children w/ just 1 ovary. Be aware, however, that altho the remaining ovary takes over .....hormonal changes DO occur....
