With my first son they couldn't tell in either one of the ultrasounds I had, so I didn't know if he was a boy or a girl until he was born. With my second son I had an ultrasound at 20 weeks and they could tell that he was a boy. I am now 25 weeks pregnant and at 19 weeks I had an ultrasound and they said that they couldn't see very clearly but they were about 85-90% sure it was a girl. I then had another one last week at 24 weeks and the technician told us it is a girl, so we'll see if they are right.
The ultrasounds are now more accurate than before. A few years ago they would tell you the sex based on if they saw a penis or not. So they were normally correct when they said you were having a boy, cause they saw something there, but if they told you it was a girl you only had a 60% chance of them being correct, because you could have a boy and he had his legs crossed or something like that. Now they can better guess if it is a girl by looking for the lines of the labia. I believe my technician told me that they could tell its a girl by the lack of a penis and 3 lines which made up the labia or something like that.
Good Luck

Yes, I found out with my second child and they correctly predicted a boy! I found out at 18wks 4days gestation. The best time to be accurate is between 18-25weeks so I was told by my radiographer.
Although the doctor I had with my first baby, his wife's 3rd pregnancy, they were told a girl at the first 2 ultrasounds and then at 35 weeks they were told it was a boy and even being a doctor himself, he didn't pick it up on the first 2 scans. (it was a boy) So they can be wrong, so always prepare yourself for this. Keep receipts for anything you've purchased so you can return it if you have to and pick a name too just in case. I've heard they are only right about 80% of the time. No person or machine is perfect.
Good luck

The thing is, it depends on whether the baby is exposing its privates(vulgar as it may sound). Thing is, it may be covering it or it may be blocked by the umbilical cord. it also depends on the expertise of whoever is reading the ultrasound. This doesn't concern ultrasounds, but when I fractured my ankle a few years ago, the doctor at the hospital could not see the crack (it was a hairline fracture), but the one at the clinic had clearly seen it and had me sent to the hospital to get it cast. The older doctor in the next room at the hospital had to point it out to my doctor, and even then he did not seem too convinced.

The doctor was correct on the sex of both my children. My doctor guessed initially based on the heart rate. Supposedly girls heart rate is faster than boys. We had an ultrasound and he was correct. If the ultrasound image is clear enough you can make out all the features of the baby. The technicians do ultrasounds enough to know what they are looking for.

It's not necessarily the machine, it's the Dr reading the results and the position of your baby. Apparently I had a great Dr or my baby was positioned just right as he was able to tell with fair certainty at my first ultrasound at 14weeks. Normally that's very early to be able to tell, but he said he was fairly sure it would be a girl. At 22wks along I went in again, and he confirmed that it would be a girl. I still wasnt 100% sure in my mind though as I've heard stories of them being wrong, so until I saw her for myself I still thought 'I hope my little boy doesnt mind a purple crib!'

We were told at the 12 week scan it was girl and it was then confirmed again it was a girl at the 20 week scan................and we had a girl. All my girlfriends have found out and all came out the correct sex. No expert will say it is 100% correct the only way you can tell for sure is by a amneo test. We were told it was a girl as he could see the ovaries etc from the scan.

They did my ultrasound at 17 weeks, said he was a boy, and out popped a baby boy 16 weeks later(he was a preemie).
Apparently there was never any guess work as to what my son was. From what I've seen of other little boys, apparently my son stood out from the rest.

The tech. who did all of ultrasounds told me I was having a boy and I did. She told me at 20 weeks when I went for my first ultrasound.
On the other hand...I know 3 people who went to a different hospital and they were all told the wrong sex.

a good tech will show you and wait for you to see the picture, if the baby was not in a position to give a definite answer then the tech shouldn't make an assumption, my first was a girl and it was very obvious even to my unskilled eye that she was, and my second is a boy and it was extremely obvious to me this time as well, 95 to 100% accuracy.

the intercourse of a sprint you would be able to be desperate as early as 18 to 20 weeks, yet this does not advise you will continually get to nicely known actual away. With my first he had his legs unfold open and became no longer shy, so we found out actual away we've been having a boy, in my 2nd being pregnant, my daughter, sat pass legged and we did no longer discover out till at last i became in my 6th month!!! so even tho they are in a position to make certain the intercourse so early it rather relies upon on the area of the newborn!
