It's biological. Men are simple creatures, and men like it like that. Guys have to do only 4 things: eat, poop, procreate, and fix/ build things.
Just last weekend my son and I built an outdoor kitchen, including 2 wooden ice chests, a wash sink, a hand made cutting board, and liquor cabinet. It all fits nicely around my patio, and is built around my BBQ pits. My wife loves it, and I have been asked for the plans I drew.
Perhaps you girls need to decide what you want a guy to do, or pick your guys more carefully. My projects are completed on time, in budget, and look good.

the same reason women always act like they know what they are doing with child rearing and they end up with a disturbed monster of a kid or decorating and the house scares you when they are done.
becuase men dont want to have another man coming into their house and doing something they should be able to do

It's the same disease that prevents them from asking directions or checking a map when they are lost. LOL
Go onto hgtv.com or diy.net and find the project he's attempting. Make him watch the instructional video if there is one and print out the article and make sure he reads it.
Look on ebay and purchase inexpensive used books on tiling, woodwork, etc and you read them too so you can see the avalanche coming.
Buy your own toolbox to rescue him.

because men are viewed as being taking care of women, fixing up the house, doing more of handy work. but even though they dont have a clue what they are doing, they are trying to live up to what they are said to be. also it can be pride.
