It doesn't matter.
Your tester will tell you where to go, just do what they say and drive well and you should be fine. You should be able to handle anything they throw at you, if you can't then you probably aren't ready to get your licence.

Great idea. I took my test in 1975 on a test route i knew very well, the problem was that I waited for the examiner to tell me where to go, as other answers have mentioned, and managed to drive down a one way street the wrong way. I was waiting to be told what to do instead of concentrating on the road, my driving and road signs. Go for a totally unfamiliar area, dont learn the routes, just turn up on the day and you will find your awareness and concentration enhanced. you wont have time to be nervous, youll be to busy driving. I took my test for the second time 60 miles from home, on a cold frosty morning and passed. I wish you the very best of luck and safe driving for the future. Regards, Mark

You are more likely to pass if you stay in your familiar area however it will show your superior driving skills if you pass in unfamiliar teritory. As soon as you pass you will have to drive all over the place so it will be good for you. I did the same thing and passed, but i had 2 weeks of lessons in that area beforehand.
Driving examiners use the same routes all the time, so why not do some research on the route, if you ring them they will tell you. Get yourself some practice in the area.
I am sure you will be fine, but good luck!!!

Each city does have their own weird way of laying out roads and stop signs and one way streets, etc. When I was going through driving school the instructor started us off in the city we lived in, but the 2nd or 3rd drive we went on he took us to another city with a lot of one-way roads. I would just practice in a few different towns to get used to surprises, that way you'll be ready in whatever town you decide to test in. Challenge yourself, and you'll be a better and safer driver.

very bad idea, you will need to ensure you go round all the one way sections, know odd roads which are not the norm. for example where i live, there is a junction where the traffic in the right hand lane goes straight on. there are road markings o the road, but you would never see these because there's always traffic over them. if you didnt know the area, you'd miss it. good luck anyway

You are supposed to be a competent driver so able to navigate all roads, you are lacking self confidence,go through the highway code as many times as possible before test until you are sick of it.Good luck

I actually failed my first test because i knew the roads that i was driving on.
I was on a road very near to my house, there was a "Police Slow" sign which had been there for a couple of days which they didnt remove.
I was driving on that road, and the instructor failed me becuase i didnt slow down, even though i knew there was nothing there

I've done four driving tests. Car, bike, and two lorry tests and I've passed all first time. I'm glad I took them on roads I was familiar with so there were no surprises. Good luck on your test!!

It shouldn't make any difference, indeed you can get in trouble from being complacent because you think you know what's coming, like Munki nutz says. If you're in a strange area you automatically pay more attention and do things as you should do, rather than by habit.
Good luck.

i dont think it should matter alot unless you have been driving on the same routes throughout your course as it means ur brain will have been trained to respond to stuff on only that route but hopefully that shouldnt be the case. just be confident about what you are doing and you will be fine!
