i have known a guy thru a social network for over a year. He lives about 45 minutes from me by car . we've never met up but i would like to, we write eachother funny messages and he seems to share my whacky sense of humour. I have invited him to see a show of mine but we never arranged anything. He is a few years younger than me but both in our twenties. Will he ever ask me out or is this a silly fantasy? we also went to the same uni and did the samecourse altho we werent there at the same time. He writes nice good length messages ...

That is a good question...If it's to be, it will be....but you have to help it to be.

Do the old fashioned thing, invite him for a coffee. Go to somewhere in town so you are on neutral territory.
Also, sorry if this sounds rude, have you exchanged any pics of each other yet? He may be worried that you think he is ugly and wont want to know him, or that you think he is only a 'boy' and not mature enough for you.

Why not have a trial friendship? You seem to have things in common. don't get too emotionally involved until you find out more about his background though. Some people hide who they really are until it is too late. Be on the cautious side and speak to some of his friends to check.

Sometimes guys need a more "obvious" hint.
For me, there was a girl i liked but she was a year and a half older then me. I thought she just wanted to be my friend, but she wanted more, i never noticed. She finally just had her friend tell me, that she wanted me to ask her out etc...Yea i am an idiot...But anyways, maybe it would be better just to ask him, just say something like "So, are you ever going to ask me out!?" Just see what he says, maybe he just hasnt figured it out yet.

Is her married?! is he seeing someone?!
If hes not, test the waters & if its safe, plunge right in...head first not heart first 'cos baby this is the real world now and you're not sitting safely behind a neat little nickname like "phish"!!!
All the best!
Take care!

Well, get to it if you want to meet him. I wouldn't chose to meet someone from on-line. But, to each his own. Just make sure it's a public place and people you know are aware of who are where you met. It's still somewhat risky.
But, it's been ages so if you are going to meet you might as well do it.

Get and meet him. If nothing else you will have met a new friend.
Just make sure you tell someone where you are going.
GO FOR IT! Life is too short.
