They injured themselves during training to be a Ranger....

They were discharged because of the injury but the way they go on..you'd think they fought a war..

I find it distastefuland I think it downplays the soldiers that were actually in battle.

If you were in the military ( i was 11B infantry, vilseck, germany and ft. carson , Co, and Ft. Benning Ga), you did your time for your country, just because a war didn't break out while you were in has nothing to do with it. The training is very tough and hard and you live as a soldier 24/7. Most civilians could not or would not subject themselves to laying in the snow for a month at a time, tired, hungry, and freezing while walking 12 miles a night for weeks on end...this is what the trainings like, but of course in the summer , you do the same thing except you sweat your *** off. I would lose 15 lbs. in 2 weeks during training . So, my answer is that its ok to talk about being in the military , even if you didn't go to real war. I myself, went to Kosovo and it was not exactly high combat, but we had lots of incidents with fights and snipers occasionally shooting at us, so I wasn't in a real war so to speak, but i served my country with all that i had as have many others. If you were never in the military, then you could not understand, but its hard , war or not , and you have a chance of getting killed even when you are training. By the way, if they were training to be a ranger, they were striving to be the elite, and the training is very hard and dangerous....same with Sf (special forces). I have several friends who are currently Sf and trust me, the process to become either is so hard that its no disgrace in getting injured during the process, they should be respected for trying.

I don't know about the bragging part, but we have to remember that being in the military doesn't mean that you are going to fight in a war. The military does a lot of other things for our country besides fight in wars. Just a small example, the Coast Guard protects our waters and harbors and the National Guard provides aid to help those in need after natural disasters. I am just as appreciative of those that haven't fought in a war but serve in the military.

This is coming from someone who's father fought in WWII, the Korean War and in the Vietnam War and who's brother is a Major in the Air Force.

Best wishes.

I don't think any less of them. I might not like it, BUT it isn't their fault that they did or did not go to war. Maybe they actually wanted to go to war but there wasn't anything going on at the time, or maybe they wanted to go but the military decided NOT to send them. They did go into the military and to some degree just this fact makes them somewhat of a hero. And as long as this person is NOT outright making up stories about a war or battle then I'd just let it go. Hey he WAS in the military, so he does have bragging rights.

unfortunate.

they couldn't brag when they were in the military, so they're doing it now. give 'em a break , i say. unless they're just really all up on themselves, give em the "talk to the hand"! lol

My father was in the military and never fought a war, is that saying he didn't serve his time? There are plenty of periods in American History that we weren't at war. Do you think these people wasted their time being prepared to fight at a moment's notice? That's a good way for all of you to show your appreciation to our Veterans.

Being a Veteran of the Viet Nam war and 14 years in the USAF myself, I look at it as being a bold face wanna-be liar.

I think they should put thier *** in war and to see how it really is, then ask them all about the military.

I think that anybody who brags about anything probably feels crappy about themselves and are looking for validation.
