My mind knows they can't hurt me and don't want to attack me, but my body responds like they do. Please don't suggest that I touch them, let them walk on me etc., cause I'm just not willing to do that. But it bothers me that I have this irrational fear.

Not really a suggestion....

I do not have any issues with spiders. Like you, I know that they do not intend to harm be, and like you, I will jump when any spider gets near me. I just have to remember that I am faster than they are.

I have a rule when it comes to spiders and insects. If they don't mess with me, I don't mess with them (i.e. kill them)

That this is an irrational fear, it makes it so much harder to overcome. At this point, I suggest that you might do some research on spiders. Learn about them and understand their way of life. The more you understand something, the less likely you will fear it.

Even so, I would still kill one if one comes near me. Although...I want to learn to be more compassionate. I eventually want to be able to capture one and release it outside. Every life is precious.

And in no way am I ever going to touch a spider. Hehe.

I dont have an answer for you but I wanted to say that I too have a major irrational fear of spiders. I am a thrill seeker - I love roller coasters, flying, being on the water - jet skiing, skiing etc. I am not scared of snakes, lizards or any kind of insect (but cockroaches are disgusting and I stay away) but with spiders I am petrified. I am really not scared of much else (except criminals) but when I see a spider its like my blood freezes in my veins!! I run away screaming and if i can: I KILL IT

I know how you feel! I will NEVER touch one or let it walk on me. Just talking about them or now even typing about them makes chills run up my back!!!!!! The only other thing I am scared of is scorpions - because a very deadly one stung me and I had to be rushed to the hospital. The only advice I can give you is try and stay away from them and kill them if you have to (I always think if i dont, they are gonna come back and crawl over me - irrational but i cant help it)
When I go into strange places or bathrooms I always check the corners for spiders - natural reaction for me.

Maybe we should chat about how yucky they are?

Emotions tend to be much stronger then reason. Reason mostly uses the left side of the brain, left brain for short. The much more powerful side is the right brain that seems to think in pictures. Simply getting information on emotions solves the problem a lot, getting back from your emotions and looking at them as if you're outside as you are. You are not your emotions but the awareness of them. The judgmental words are to emotional. Try descipive one describing accurately. We are not our thoughts either but have thoughts. Oh, here's a site for fear, I think, in the UK. self-confidence. co. uk Somehow neither psychiatrists nor the public seems to be aware of all the advances. I suppose because they are coming from different fields like neurobiology, noetic science and even relate to spirituality. trans4mind. com has 64 ebooks free on different subjects. The good news is that although there's some reading the results change you whole mind to positive, loving, happy and gives you wisdom and people skills in the mix. It's not that great for math and heavy logic that only makes me nervous as it take too much from running the body, for instance. But it's the new mind shift for the 21st century and beyond. I highly recommend getting on the net and seeing about emotional intelligence and intuition which access the right brain. Scientists compare our normal thinking to a monkey and the right brain to a tiger. That should give you some idea of the power of using the whole mind.

same, my fear is just as bad. i was outside one time picking blackberries, i saw a daddy long leg on the bush, and haven't had a blackberry since! i felt them crawling on me all night and had to take a bath (checking the tub for spiders of course). 2 nights later, i found one in my room, screamed really loud, and totally pissed my parents off. now my parents wont let me drive nxt yr if i can't concur it! so i cant tell u how to beat the fear, but i will tell you to spray for spiders. also google up ways to keep them out of your house, car, mailbox, etc. good luck!

well, the only way to get over your fear is to confront it. I guess being around them more not actually touching them would make you more comfortable around them.

OK....here is my opionion....A fear of spiders is totally RATIONAL.

Your mind is WRONG if it thinks they can't hurt you - they can kill you!

Any spider bite will hurt & some will kill.
