My son started acting recently, maybe a few months ago. He is 6 years old and I didn't realize that he could do acting until he was chosen for a commercial. We had great feedback from the production company on his look. He had done a few things before we started going to acting classes, but that is VERY important. My son is very shy, but loves to act and loves acting classes. If you have acting classes under your belt and even though you have no experience you will be able to get an agent if what you present to them is what they are looking for.
You need a headshot, as well as other pictures. Some agents prefer nonprofessional photos. I do not know your age group and location, but I do have a list of LA agents that I have researched with their submission requirements. I have it in a word document, so if you want a copy you can ask me through e-mail.
Agents are easy to find, but in order to get you noticed and signed without having a solid resume, you need a specific look (what that is, is unknown to me), evidence you are working on your craft (acting classes), and maybe even a positive connection through someone you know.
I would never go through life thinking what if I had done that. I have always done what I have aspired to do. I am 33 years old and can no longer work anymore because of disability, but I have no regrets.

You need to have a resume, like any other job you apply for.
If you have never been in movies, tv, commercials, theatre, then this is more than likely what the agents will be looking for on your resume.
An acting resume consist of your skills,(things that you know how to do) such as sports, singing, dance, instruments as many skills as you can think of. Make sure you know how to do them, they may ask you to demonstrate in an audition. Most agents want a demo reel when you submit. You will also need to list where you trained(your school, acting workshops, or a private teacher) and what they taught. For example if they taught cold reading, on camera techniques etc. Try to audition for plays in your area, at a church, your school, or the local theatre. This reel has clips of work you have done and edited together for about 5-7 mins. Then you will need a good headshot. Attach the both and submit to them to Sag Agents. There are a lot of scams, so it is better if you start out dealing with agencies affiliated with the union.
Go to Sag.org and they will give you a list of agents for your state.
The Sag website also gives the phone numbers, so you can also call them and ask them some simple questions.

The best way to get into the acting business is to go to a reputable drama school. This will give you a good base to work from and understand the business. All good schools regularly have agents coming round to have a look at the calibre of the students. Also there are end of year shows that have agents invited to and many students pick up an agent at these times.
An agent who takes you on without ever seeing you act is to be avoided at all costs as they will not be able to get you work suitable for your particular talents. You say that you are desperate to get into acting but it is an industry that many abuse by offering supposed jobs to those who will do anything, Rarely, if ever does this lead to work and you end up just paying out more and more money without ever getting work.
I don't know how old you are but you can study acting at anytime, so consider going on a drama course and seeing what comes from it. In the mean time get as much acting experience as you can by joining local drama groups.

it depends on what city you live in. Look up agents in the phone book. If you are in Los Angeles, the better agencies will not accept you until you do enough films to have what is called a reel of your work. That would be clips of your acting on a dvd. You can get that by contacting the universities and auditioning for student films there and thats how you get the experience to get into a good agency. Most real good agencies anywhere only take you after you have experience with a reel of your work on a dvd. good luck and NEVER give up on your dream and listen to your heart and follow it

I would recommend that you get ready for an agent before you try to find one. Agents are not interested in inexperienced nobodies. They are interested in the most talented and most attractive who can compete with the best actors in the world. So get more experience and become a better actor and cultivate a look that will be interesting to the agents and casting directors. Then you might consider looking for agents. They are not magicians sitting around waiting for inexperienced nobodies to come into their offices so they can turn them into stars. Doesn't work that way.
