no matter how much experience you have you can't just go straight to manager. you've gotta start out at the bottom.

You poor thing! Your management team shouldn't put that kind of pressure on you or anyone else working that window! Just keep smiling, keep nodding your head, agree with everything & advise these people that there is a phone number and/or address they can write to about complaints & they can ask the MANAGER for this information at the NEXT window or go INSIDE. Maybe if the manager gets the ear-full, he/she will know what you've been up against and lay off! Life is too short to put up with that kind of stress! If your manager is YELLING, then you have grounds for verbal abuse!! Quitting is not an option! HOMIE DON'T PLAY DAT!!!!

I found an article on “The Dish on Restaurant Management” on Petersons.com for you to read.

Here's an excerpt on some of the responsibilties of being a Restaurant Manager or for that matter a bugger joint.

Its not just flipping bugger. Its all-purpose.

Restaurant management is a career that goes far beyond providing good food. While your love for food may be what propels you into the field, cooking will very likely be low on your duty roster. To run the restaurant that people will rave about, you must learn to manage every aspect with panache (style, flair, elegance). You can expect to be an HR manager of sorts: hiring, firing, and training your staff — and supervising them on their performance.
You'll need to be proficient in OSHA regulations and health department requirements: ensuring proper maintenance, cleanliness, and safety standards.
How's your math? You can also expect to be involved with payroll and recordkeeping — at the very least, you'll be the one to sign off on it. Of course, your food expertise will come in handy as well since you'll also be involved with overseeing food inventory, ordering food, and selecting menus. But above all else, your ultimate responsibility is to ensure customer satisfaction so people will return again and again.
With an average workday of 12 to 15 hours, it sounds like a piece of cake, doesn't it? Relax! More than likely there will be Assistant Managers and Head Cooks to help you with various duties, but in the food service industry, long hours are pretty standard. Of course, so are free meals!

okay. i started working at Wendys when i was 16. i started as crew member, then crew leader, and now im a manager. i worked there for like 6 months then crew leader and about three or four months and then manager.
u start from the bottom, like crew member, and you learn all the regulations and how to do things at that certain place. bc different places have different regulations and rules ect ect.
before working at wendys, i worked no where else, so therefore i had no experience.

in the philippines, fast food companies (BK, MCD among others) are hiring fresh university grads as Management Trainees. after 6 months if you completed (wd no failing marks) you can be confirmed as a shift manager.

bottom line is: these are multi national companies we are talking about. so what applies in the philippines applies to other countries also. (ex. cooking burgers its done 4 mins and 30 secs. searing after the 30 secs, am i correct)

if you are really driven to be one, you should ask your manager if do they have programs(considering your 20 years of Exp.) for those who wants to pursue.

as for the doe, compared to other industries. its in the bottom list. if you want big money, its in the medical field thats making lots of it. and also teaching special kiddos.

good luck!

Check out this site:

It gives the requirements for a managerial position at Burger King restraurants. I would imagine they'd be similar at other fast food places. One being that you complete their internal basic management trainging program.
