Hello,
(ANS) Norton AV should have a configuration page, a page which allows you to change the program settings. Norton should have an option to perform a local or selective scan i.e. just c: drive for example.
NOTE: - Symantec and Norton AV have a poor reputation for gobbling a large amount of system resources hence slowing your machine down. I used to use Norton AV myself until the paid for update subscription became far to expensive.
I removed Norton AV and moved to Free AVG Anti Virus (version 7.5 which is the current stable version) its free for personal use and is better than Norton. It has ALL the same features as Norton and more, I've been using AVG Free for many months now and its an excellent product, I can highly recommend this program to you.

Hope that helps?
Kind Regards Ivan

here are steps to do it one by one:
Step 1: In order to set up a regularly scheduled scan, click on the Scheduled Scans expandable list in the left-hand side to reveal the New Scheduled Scan option.
Step 2: When the New Scheduled Scan option is selected, click Full Scan. IT Help Central recommends that you choose Full Scan.
Step 3: After clicking the Next button, the name and description of the new scan can be entered. For this example, the name of the scheduled scan is 'Scan'. You can change the Name and the Description of this scan to anything you would like. Once you have made all of your changes, click Next.
Step 4: After clicking the Next button, the specifics of the Scan can be specified such as the Frequency to scan as well as the time of day. IT Help Central recommends that you choose Daily for the scan frequency. Once you have configured the scan to your satisfaction, click on the Advanced button.
Step 5: The Advanced Schedule Options window will now appear. This will allow you to change the handling of missed events. If you set this to 24, your computer will always scan the next time the computer is on if an event is missed, no matter how long the computer has been off. Click OK to close the Advanced Schedule Options window.
Step 6: When the scan options are satisfactory, click the Next button. The components to be scanned will now be presented in the Scan pane on the right-hand side. Select the check box next to My Computer to scan your entire computer. Now click on the Options button.
Step 7: The Scan Options window will now open. In this window, you will be presented with more options to be specified for the scheduled scan. Once you have set you desired options, click OK.
Step 8: Once you have set all of your settings, click the Save button to save the scheduled scan.
Step 9: When the scheduled event is saved, the new event is saved in Scheduled Scans with the name 'Scan' or whatever name you gave the scan in Step 2. To manually run the scan, click on it and then click on the Scan button.

Baby, Use AVG not the dollar general scanner. Norton is poor on everything im a real professional and all the professional either use AVG or AntiVir they are only 2 they use. Its also free and friendly easy.
Only idiotic dealers use Norton that doesnt know nothing other then just selling things. its similiar to AOL

It should have done a full scan following it's installation.
Quick scans, looks at the changed files incrementally, so should be all that's now required.

I had Norton installed on my computer thinking it was the sensible thing to do, I ended up with my computer riddled with viruses, i had to leave the computer into a repair station to get cleaned. I was advised there that you are nearly better having a virus on your computer than having Norton. They cleaned the computer and installed AVG, the computer is now running better than it ever was.
I'd advise removing Norton and installing AVG it's free.
