Some would say hate, but I disagree. With hate you are still tied to the other person, have some of your life invested in them. The opposite of love is indifference. To just have no interest at all in the other person, what they do, who they are and how they feel, that is the opposite of love. To have no care how they live thier lives, not to care if they live or die, is the opposite of love. And it will kill love faster than anything else.

There is no opposite of love, other than non-love. It's that simple. If you never met someone, or a cat or a dog or a horse, you can't love it. The opposite of love is non-love. Hate is the same as love, just in a different level. Ron

Many people will answer hate.
However, hate still indicates "caring."
You can't hate something unless you love its opposite. That indicates that you care about the difference.
You can't hate a person you loved until you loved him (or her) and that person hurts you. But if you still care, love sometimes masquerades as hate. So hate is not the direct opposite of love. Love and hate are two side of the same coin.
Ambivalence ( not caring ) is the opposite of love.
When you stop caring, both love and hate become impossible.
Likewise, when you stop loving, it is always because you no longer care.
The opposite of love is ambivalence.

The opposite of love in my opinion is indifference or apathy. To not give a damn!
Not hate as hate is a strong emotion attached only to things/people u have an interest in.

I think its apathy. While most people would say hate, I've never agreed with that. Love and hate are both passionate emotions. Apathy, on the other hand....what could be a more opposite feeling than completely not caring one way or the other?

Love is such an overloaded term these days it has many meanings... but that being said...
The obvious one most people tend to choose is hate, yet love and hate can coexist, I wonder if apathy, or ignorance would be more appropriate?....
Perhaps love doesn't have an opposite? or perhaps its opposite is paradoxically something else that draws people together (like in the case of hate)

Good ******' question. Well we know it's not hate..oh, wait, yeah, it would be hate.As love and hate are photo negatives of each other; you love when you go out of your way to help someone, you hate when you do the same to hurt--But then there's that Chuck Palahniuk Fight Club logic that says "we'd rather be hated by God than flat-out ignored by him." But i guess that would have more to do with wanting someone (in this case, God) to know who you are. So, yea, since on the scale of relationship-related-emotions, Love is 5, Hate is -5, and being ignored is 0, yea, i'd say hate is the opposite of love.

The opposite of love is lack of love. In other words it is resistance such as that provided by negative emotions.
When a parent is angry, in that moment the parent cannot love the child. That goes for everyone but somehow it is harder to swallow when it is a mother and child. Yet, it is swallow or pretend (sometimes called buffering).
