If that were the case, why don't you put him on Methadone - just in case he starts on heroin ! ! !

No, of course not ! The patches deliver nicotine, as a substitute for smoking the stuff. All they will do is develop a chemical dependence on nicotine - and make him more likely to crave a cigarette. Leave the lad alone - he won't smoke and needs no "help" from you

NO.
The gums and the patches are designed to release nicotine very slowly and in small amount to curve the craving. Since he has never smoked, he is not addicted to the nicotine, thus, there is no craving to start. Giving him nicotine may even start the problem where none existed.
He will probably benefit far more from your guidance and support for NOT STARTING in his critical years. (which is now)
Giving him a treatment for addiction when none exist is very ill conceived idea.

Definitely not. The patches introduce a low level of addictive nicotine into his system, they are used to fight off nicotine cravings. He is possibly more likely to crave cigarettes if he uses patches or gum when not a smoker.

Probably not, because it will cause him to depend upon the nicotine....then when he actually goes off the patch, he will then have the craving and could possibly take up smoking then.
