see my problem is that i have a huge phobia of bugs. (crickets, grasshoppers, roaches, spiders, caterpillars etc.) my bf really thinks im kidding when i tell him or even mention it. everytime he sees one of these bugs he will point it out and watch me basically freak out. later i will go home and almost sob just thinking about how scared i was. he thinks its funny and wont take it serious. i have tried to sit him down and tell him that i really am scared and that he just makes me feel bad for it but then he only tells me to drop this joke. he has no real fears like this so he doesnt understand. what can i do to make him stop laughing at me and taunting me with bugs?

try one more sit down with him not after the event but just randomly. tell him how cruel he is being and that you are not joking. Explain to him that the phobia is something that you take seriously and that you will try and get help for it. If he continues to berate your feelings regarding this matter tell him that you must rethink your position on this relationship. You must do this to show him how important this is. If he doesn't understand then you must realize that this is someone who is not considerate of your feelings and completely selfish. He treats you with cruelty for his own amusement. This is not something that should be taken that lightly. It makes you cry and he makes you feel bad. This is not what a BF is supposed to do. It is him laughing at you at your expense. Phobias are to be taken seriously.

I would tell him he better try to understand. You are not the only person with this phobia. Have you tried counseling at all to help you learn some techniques in dealing with your phobia when you are faced with a bug? Try some counseling. take his behavior as a clue to the future. He seems to have no or little respect for you. You are being given a window into the future with him. If he is like this now he will only be worse down the road.

You should break up with him. If he can't take your phobia seriously, what else can't he handle? He sounds like he thinks he is too good for common fears. Is this the man you want to be the father of your children? Dump him and dump him fast. The sooner the better. Leave the trash out to get picked up by someone else. You deserve better. You deserve someone who will not laugh at your stupid fears. Good luck trying to find someone this delusional.

A phobia is definately serious stuff and people like your b/f shouldnt kid about it. Supposing you were allegic to peanuts or something..is he gonna feed them to ya just to see you break out in hives.. this is a seroius matter. If he cant understand your fears..i dont see how you can find a way to take him seroiusly if he cant seem to take you seriously . To me..he seems very immature. Educate him regarding phobias..if you really want him..if not..dont bother with him..

Hmm, maybe first of all, you need to seek professional help in understanding why you have this phobia??? Then, in one of these sessions , bring your bf along so that he can see for himself that this is no laughing matter and that he should take it seriously.... Alternatively, you can sit down and talk to him and tell him that this phobia is real and it won't go away just because he thinks it's funny.... Tell him that HE NEEDS TO RESPECT YOUR FEELINGS IN THIS MATTER AND BE UNDERSTANDING TO YOUR FEARS...

Be consistent and point out the seriousness of your not liking bugs. Some people think a reaction of fear or dislike of something is funny so you really need to stress your disapproval and in time hopefully they will leave you alone.

if you have tried explaining it all to him i think you have no alternative but to find his achilles heal and expose him to it, and let him feel what you feel, a mutual understanding should then be reached. A phobia is very real to the sufferer, and quite often people do not understand. Good luck

Why would you want to look at porn just to prove that you're not gay? I mean what's the point? If you are not gay and people claim that you're gay, why should that hurt you? You might feel a little uncomfortable but really it doesn't matter?

Truthfully, i think you should dump him. I know that sounds extreme, but look at this:

he doesn't believe you
he doesn't care if you are scared
he gets some sort of kick out of you being scared
he has no empathy for your fears
This is really bad stuff.

tell him it is over if he does it one more time--- make it stick. then he will believe you.
