I bought my dog a Spray Commander collar from Multivet. The collar has a remote control with three programs. The first one beeps twice, the second one warns the dog with a tiny spray the third gives a real good squirt of something the dog doesn't like. The spray is harmless to both dog and humans.
The first time the dog barks give a warning, the second time I go to three for a big squirt. It took about 20minutes for the dog to behave the way I wanted. The collar works up to 85m from the remote.
I now only have to put the collar on the dog and she behaves. She wears it all the time when she is out of doors and when I take her out.
Give it a try It'll change your whole family's life and the dog's too. Peace to you all.

Teach your dog the meaning of "quiet"! It's as simple as that.
Don't ever hit your dog for barking, that's not the answer. Dogs can hear things humans can't hear so there may be something upsetting him and he's just letting you know about it. I have a non-breakable plastic bottle filled with uncooked rice and when I shake that my dogs know they're doing something wrong and stop, instantly! I don't know why they don't like the sound, but they don't. They know when I'm reaching for it and that's usually a good enough deterrent. If you try one of those, never throw it at your dog, if you have to throw it, throw it close to the dog but never close enough to hit it.

There is the shock collar which gives a mild shock, the citris spray but there is other methods you can use if you are watchful enough. Here is one .. Take a soda pop can and put pennies into it and tape the top .. everytime they bark or do something bad throw it at their feet and the other is grab their muzzle everytime they bark and yes they hate it and will try to shake your hand off .. tell them no barking in a loud voice everytime they try to bark. I have so far broke a few dogs with regular discipline including 3 shetland sheepdogs(yes they are very barky dogs)

Try to find why they are barking first. Do they get enough exercise? Is there something bothering them?
Depending on where you live, there are societies for the welfare of animals such as RSPCA and similar and they are happy to come to your house and give you free advise re. the needs of your dogs. Happy dogs don't bark a lot, find out what's going on.

You can get special dog collars that squirt a lemon spray every time the dog barks - the dog doesn't like the smell so by association stops barking.
One supplier of such a collar is greenfingers.com - the Aboistop Anti-Bark Collar kit but there are lots of other suppliers on the internet.

Actually we cured a friends dog of incessant barking by simply having a spray bottle of water handy. As soon as he barked he got a spray of water in the face, which he didn't like and it didn't take long before he got the message. It didn't hurt and everyone was happy.

how old is the dog. You should never smack them as this is cruel. What is it barking at.
when they bark you could put them in a room for 5 min and let him out again.
Then put him back when he starts again, they will soon get the message.
Give a treat and lots of praise when they dont bark

You could try using a tazer...
In reality, you need to entertain them, give them some toys to play with and TRAIN THEM to be obedient which is what most dog owners fail to do which is why dogs often bark.
I have a muppet who lives about 8 doors down who chains his do up outside his back door and anyone walking past, especially a child gets barked at and the dog lunges at them.
He does not walk the dog, he does not correct the dog, he does not train the dog and soon when it mauls a child, it will be put down because the RSPCA has told him that he will lose the dog if they get anymore complaints.
