On society? The Beatles, easily. John Lennon was one of the most famous people on Earth when he died, and George Harrison's "Concert for Bangladesh" was probably rock music's first great charity event.

By far and away 'The Beatles' in 1963 they were in the vanguard of a minor revolution in the way Society was structured. In UK there was till largely a them and us attitude between the upper classes and the lower classes, the Beatles were a cornerstone of all this being swept away. By 1967 UK was a different world.

Floyd had their first hits because the Beatles had led the way in the first place.

In America this was slightly different, but their conquest of the 'States' in 1964 led many Americans to look outside their own Country for the first time, plus Vietnam was just coming to the fore.

But again it was 'the Fab Four' who were in the forefront of the 'psychedelic' revolution, Floyd emerged from this.

floyd. the beatles were a fad that just kept going. floyd actually really made us think. and let the thumbs down rain! but really, i think the beatles had a bigger impact on music, but the question was about the impact on society itself. i think the beatles had a bigger impact on music and that in turn had a huge impact, but floyd impacted society directly, they seemed to have that intention.

Even though the Beatles had a larger impact, I think it's safe to say that Pink Floyd still kicked more ***.
