I'm don't think that they bite, though I've never been that close to one x_x I HATE them...not really a phobia, but I'm scared of them. They gross me out...Anyway I cam across this article saying: You probably don't need to fear bites from cockroaches. It's unlikely you'll be bitten, but not entirely impossible.

According to Stoy Hedges, an entomologist and Manager of Technical Services at Terminix International, "They [cockroaches] have been known to bite but only in rare circumstances, when they have exploded into large populations. They are known to crawl onto people's ears, bite off their eyebrows and things like that. They are looking for food, but that's when they are in large populations. They only do this when there is no food available."

So really, I guess they only bite when they have no food...or something

YES THEY DO BITE!
I was bit by one over 25 years ago and still have a red mark on my hand. The bite wasn't pain full but I will always remember it. It hissed, sitting in between 2 plates in an old cupboard at a run down Motel.

First time ever saw one and then once saw blond hair roaches in an old fridge (Back of fridge).
I live in British Columbia where there hardly are any, a man & his wife living in the apts. just moved from California. They knew they were roaches right away.
They told me to put chalk all round in side cupboads because it bothers their legs, causing them to intch to death.
Did you know a cockroach can live a week without its head. The roach only dies because without a mouth, it can't drink water and dies of thirst?
GROSS

I don't know if you can call it a Phobia for me, but I couldn't sleep and dreamed years later of them.
So now I inspect every place I live in and if renting I want it listed on paper no insect such as Roachs ;-)

here are so facts about them:

Edit: Here is a fact that they do bite:

The cockroach is an omnivore, that is, it eats everything edible, animal and vegetable. So if we do not move around too much while sleeping they might be inclined to nibble on our earlobes at night. They are rarely aggressive enough to attack us while we are awake. When visiting Tulane University in New Orleans many years ago I slept in a dormitory room and cockroaches were flying down from the ceiling onto my head. I would guess that these large American cockroaches, _Periplaneta americana_, would be capable of taking a good bite out of me. Only the larger species could take a bite through our skin. Of course the skin of children is much more tender and vulnerable to a roach bite.

the roaches in America are usually German roaches, they're skinny and brown. I'm sorry, but i can't remember what site i went to to find out if they do bite, but it said that yes, they do. they don't bite intentionally, usually only when you are asleep. they eat your "eye boogers" and crumbs on the corners of your mouth. when they do accidentally bite, it is just like any other bug bite, where it forms a red, itchy bump and usually goes away within 2-3 days.

Yes, I freaking hate them!

And, I may not be able to back it up with a link, but from expirience I can tell you no. At least they don't bite humans.
Seriously, when have you ever seen a roach go towards you and try to attack you? They run away from us because they can't fight back.

Remove that bug bite itch now! Turn on a hot water faucet. Put the bug bite under the water for one second or as long as you can take the pain. Dry by patting on a towel or let air dry.

No, but sometimes they crawl all over you and make noise and it's gross.

I used to be afraid of nothing, but in my early twenties I developed a strange fear of crickets. I don't care about spiders or snakes or ANYTHNG. But crickets creepy me the heck out.
