I find most Asian guys apart from my dad kind of useless when it comes to DIY. They have no idea how to fix things around the house. Also, when they see me trying to lift heavy things or attempt DIY they just sit there watching. I find that my ex-partners who were white would be more than eager to do these things. I think Asian guys can be wimpy.

Just a note, for those who say I am stereotyping. Who doesn't do that? Stereotyping is not prejudice if it is based on facts of one's own experience. Facts that remain until disproven which is why I am on this site with my question. Tx.

I have known Asian mechanics, machinists and carpenters. One particular mechanic I knew was buff and cut, had the most beautiful muscular arms and chest and was not weak or wimpy. He showed me how to do basic maintenance on a car I had at the time. I dated an Asian man for a couple of years. Although he was an MBA, believe me darling, there was nothing weak or wimpy about him.

I would beg to differ with you on your definition of stereotyping. When a person uses limited information to make sweeping generalizations about people based on similarities such as race or ethnicity, it is indeed stereotyping.

Here you have people saying that this is totally untrue, in fact quite the opposite, yet you remain stubborn by saying that it has to be true because you've never witnessed the opposite. Then you mention another ethnicity to prove your point even though it was totally unnecessary to explain you idea. I think you have a hidden motive with this question. One meant for hatred and vilification.

Essentially what I'm trying to say is there is a mental problem inside your head. Figure it out quick before you make other people as dumb and ignorant as you. To put your problem into perspective, your ignorance on a scale of 1 to 10 is 20.

WARNING: To other answers, please don't answer this question and make the same mistake as me, if you do you'll only become less intelligent!

Wimpy is a strong word and unwarranted. In Asia, there are people who do such things and they mostly belong to a somewhat lower strata of society. Thus, most middle class kids are not used to it.Same goes for fixing things around their homes.Call it abundance of population or labor or whatever, the end result is absence of exposure and with rigid division of labor['such tasks identified with a class and caste] , any body undertaking such tasks is also looked down upon by other members of the society. Therefore, lack of DIY culture in Asians has historical reasons which have nothing to do with their aptitude and competence in things technical and engineering . Hope this would place the issue in somewhat correct perspective. Thanks in advance for educating others as well.

This is stereotyping. You say most Asian guys...most Asian means more than 1 billions Asian guys are useless.

How many Asian guys have you dated? Maybe those guys just don't care about you.

This is what I hate about Asian girls. You make blanket statement about Asian guys even those the Asian population in the US is 4% with different ethnicity and culture. Then you go on the media and make disparaging remarks to stroke your own ego and marginalize the Asian community, as if we don't have enough to deal with. You are not helping.

1st generation Asian guys are very DYI because they have do it themselve in order to save money. 2nd generation have the money to pay someone else to do it. My father and I would fix our own cars, lay our own cement, do our own roofing and siding, grow our own vegetables.

If you don't have any positive to say, keep it to yourself.

I think you are stereotyping too. The only Asian guy I really know well can find a way to fix nearly anything.

Personally I am not sure if you meant the whole of Asia's man. I'm an asian living in my own house which pretty much means I have to do alot of DIYs myself. I do confess I delay most of the jobs depending on how important/urgent it is.

Asia man can do DIYs. Maybe you haven't got a chance to meet them. : )

??? I don't know any lazy asian guys, and I know a quite a few Asian guys. Ones that make average incomes do everything themselves... They'll try to fix anything because they are too cheap to buy a new one or to pay someone to do a job they can do themselves. (lol... sometimes causing it to cost more than if they just paid someone to fix it properly in the first place.) Even when they make above average incomes.. rarely do you see them pay someone else to do a job that they can do themselves.
___
Of course all my friends are ancient, I'm constantly kicking my son's off his lazy duff all the time (he's 10). I figure when he's older with a lot more responsibilities...he'd shape up to carry the load.

that is stereotyping, but some stereotypes are true. some races are just more inclined to doing certian things. asian guys can be wimpy, but so can any other race.
