There used to be selfless, or at least caring Republicans. Even "Coathanger" Henry Hyde had a soft spot for workers and prisoners.
But not anymore. These days they throw you out of the Gang of Pedophiles if you're caught giving a sucker an even break. They believe that loyalty must always be to those above you, never to those below.
OMG John B actually addressed a question! True the answer was abusive and unenlightening--but it was on point for the first time ever. Do trolls have learning curves? Or did the meds for Tourette's syndrome finally kick in?

Socialists see capitalists as greedy, evil, ruthless, selfish, bigoted, etc. it's all you hear from liberals and their media.
Liberals say if you disagree with me, you are a racist, facist, et. but guess what, the essential difference is whether you are a capitalist or a socialist. That's the heart of the issue.
Here's an example- republicans believe people like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton promote racial conflict and pervert the message of Dr King, instead of forgiveness, bringing people together and healing wounds, these guys throw gasoline on the fire of racial conflict, so they can personally derive money and power. Jessie and Al and all the reverse racists have made a pact with liberals, to support each other and never publicly criticize each other. You'd have to be a complete fool not to see Sharpton and Jackson are bad people but why is it that they can sell their own people down the river instead of helping end racial conflict? It's because they are corrupted by liberals and socialists who support each other's causes. Ever hear any liberal group call out another? It doesn't happen, off the record any liberal would admit Jackson and Sharpton are false leaders but publicly, nope, not a word.
Republicans say, let a black leader emerge who promotes racial harmony; democrats say, we're going to get even for past sins and we're not going to give you a timeline when we will stop.
So, which group is it really who is dishonest and selfish?

I'm sorry, but this is one of the most loaded, hate-based questions I've read in a while. While I don't align myself to any specific party, my personal values would fall under the category of being a conservative. Quite frankly, political views and personal values, while intertwined, are not interdependent.
Most of my friends and family share the same, or at least similar, viewpoints that I do. We all donate to church, to charities, to people in need. Does that have anything to do with our political standing? No. All that has to do with is our humanistic beliefs and values.
But my personal affiliations aside. I've known more local Republican politicians that have been personally active and supportive within the community (food drives, working at shelters, fund-raisers, etc...) than Democratic ones. For that matter, Democrats are generally the party of apathy. While they cry out for "change" and how we need to help the "less fortunate", they themselves do absolutely nothing about it! Unless, of course, it gets them media airtime.

Well, my parents have always been serious volunteers in our community. They passed that along to all five of their kids. My brothers used to volunteer with Special Olympics, I have volunteered with therapeutic riding and on two different horse groups in town to ensure the kids (and us big kids!) can have safe, fun horse shows. I'm helping to plan a fund raiser for my best friend who just got out of the hospital...no health insurance. YIKES! I know we'll barely make a dent in what is owed, but it will help.
But - I certainly believe that people need to take responsibility for their actions, too. I've been told on here that I'm very cruel and uncaring, because I think that people should THINK before they have kids. If you cannot support yourself, why be so selfish as to bring a baby into the picture?
I think welfare as it was meant to be - a hand up - is a beautiful thing and have absolutely no problem with it. But a hand out? No one deserves a hand out.
Are some Republicans selfish and greedy? Certainly - just like some Democrats are selfish and greedy. Human nature doesn't discriminate between political parties.
Xia - hate to break it to you, but some of us aren't all that religious. Thanks for playing, though.

It often seems to me that in most cases you cannot!
So my answer would have to be, no, no, and yes. Except I would feel better replacing the word Republican with conservative, and the word democrat with liberal. Because not all Republicans are conservative...even though most are. And, even though most Dems are Liberal...not all of them are. And to Texican...If what you are saying was true, then the Federal Reserve and the IRS would not exist....neither would the Patriot Act. Check out this video!

I'm sure there are decent rebublicans who are concerned with their fellow Americans, just not many. When one of your main components of your convictions is no help for other Americans through the government, how compassionate can a person truly be? They only care about a fetus, once that fetus is born, then it's on its own. Don't tell me how great it is to be conservative, a half trillion dollars being wasted in Iraq tells me something different. I despise republican politics.

Interesting.
The answer is a resounding yes.
And it begs the question in return, can you be selfless and Democrat?
You are, of course, aware that conservatives are more generous, give more of *THEIR OWN MONEY* to charity, than liberals?

there are certain rules to being a "good" Republican. Being selfless isn't one of them. The complete list can be found at the link below.
