What should 8 ohm main speaker wattage be when hooked up to a receiver/amp with 150 watt output?

Depends whether the 150 watts is music power or RMS . If RMS then you need at least 150watt speaker. If Music Power then a 50 watt is ample !!
Manufacturers usually quote in music power because it sounds more powerfull and fools all the youngsters !!!

Hi. There should be information on the speaker regarding the minimum and maximum input requirement or at least the maximum wattage the speaker can safely handle.
