Why do people put "e" or "edit" for their answers to questions?

LOL, they want to be the first answerers, so they enter a few words and click on SUBMIT. Then they come back and edit their answers.

Why do they want to be first answerer? They want lots of thumbs up, and if the question goes to voting, the voters usually pick the first answer.

they feel the need to be first....its really kinda stupid if you think about it
because ones someone reads that one letter they think they are just answering for points so they give a thumbs down
and then they go back and give there real answer and then wonder why they got a thumbs own...well theres their answer
if people MUST do that....than they should at least put edit or something....most of them just put a letter and expect everyone to know what they are doing

Because they may have made a mistake when asking the original question and didn't realize it until after they posted the question.
So if they wanted to edit something they'll go back and write

They'll put whatever mistakes they made right beside edit.

refresh or go back to that one later - they are editing their answer - adding details or making corrections, unless they just wrote edit for the answer
