(-: Fat and sugar. We're biologically programmed to love these things, and it's hard to NOT like it. Even though the burgers are like cardboard, and the shakes are pretty disgusting. (I won't say anything bad about their french fries though -- wonderful, even if they are bad for me.)
And the other thing is that it's INSTANT. No cooking, no shopping, clean up is shoving your tray down the trash chute.
If you are willing to give it a little time, though, you can have a healthier version of Mac at your house.
Buy: 1/2 pound lean pork or beef (ground)
Whole wheat buns from bakery
Condiments, if you don't already have them
Frozen shoestring potatoes
Olive oil (if you don't have it)
Salt/seasoning salt
Banana
Milk
Chocolate syrup.
Prep: At least six hours before, peel the banana, wrap in saran wrap and freeze it. I always do this with my old bananas that are turning brown, so I always have some.
Preheat the oven to 200C/400F. Spread a tablespoon of olive oil on the baking tray, put on the frozen potatoes, toss, and sprinkle with salt.
Preheat your skillet, make a hamburger patty, and cook over medium heat about five minutes.
Your oven should be ready, so pop in the potatoes for 10 to 15 minutes.
Flip the burger, and cook 5 to 10 more minutes.
Cut up the frozen banana, put it in the blender with 1 cup milk and some chocolate syrup, and blend. Taste and add more sugar if needed.
Pop the cooked burger in the bun, take out the potatoes, and pour the shake into a lovely glass. There you go! Dinner in 20 minutes! And you can add tomatoes and lettuce, which will cost you a fortune at a McD's, too. This goes great with veggie sticks and mini-tomatoes, too.
It'd probably take you 20 minutes to DRIVE to McDs. Invite a friend over, and impress them with your fast food skillz!

a lot of that has to do with high fructose corn syrup, whicht actually makes you hungrier, not only because there is physical matter in your stomach, making the muscles move, but it tells your body to NOT release insulin, making your body not feel full, but also not letting it make full use of the carbohydrates. HFCS, at McDonald's, is in most of their food, notably on the buns that are on every McDonald's sandwich, the shakes, the soda, and most of their sauces. I also wouldn't doubt it's part of the french fry coating and breading for the chicken nuggets.
