I have very light beige carpet that is stained and it is an older carpet (was like this when we moved in) I thought about bleaching it with my steam cleaner, but I worry that it will rot the carpet, we do plan on replacing it when we can afford it. I was recently told that you could use pine-sol and it would pick up the stain and not rot your carpet, curious as to if anyone has tried this, and I am open for suggestions.

I had a beige rug that was pulling up dark stains from the padding. It was new, luxorious and ruined. I bought the resolve that mixes the two cleaners together and it was the only thing that would even begin to take out the stains. But the stain would come back. I also have rental apartments and I have a good rug cleaner-the cheap black one they sell at WalMart-and I have an old rotating floor scrubber. I bought the resolve rug cleaner-the spray one in the red bottle. I sprayed the rug with it, waited a few minutes, went over it with the circular scrubber, and then sucked it all up with clean water from the rug cleaner and then shampooed it regularly and then rinsed again with clear water. It didn't take as long as it sounds and I took up stains that the professional cleaners told me they couldn't get up. The carpeting was old but very clean and no stains. Word. . .Check out the yard sales for the circular scrubber thing. They are excellent for so many things and serious cleaning.

At our grocery, you can rent a carpet cleaner for about $40 a day. They work really well.

There is a great cleaner called Hot Spot. You spray it on, and most stains do not even have to be scrubbed. It is great!
