Can anyone recomend a good breast pump. I am 35 weeks pregnant and want to breast feed but i am going to want to pump as well so that i do not have to feed all the time. I am looking for a inexpensive breast pump, i have been looking on line and the ones that seem to be good cost about 350, which is a little high for our budget. Can you recommend a good one that is a good price.

Yes I can.

I use the Ameda Purely Yours. It was about $180. At 2-3,000 a year for formula, 180 bucks is a great investment--especially since you can use it with multiple babies.

I work full time and nurse exclusively, so a good pump is essential. I love that I can pump both sides at once, the carrying case, the whole kit and kaboddle. I'm actually now using my pump on its second baby, and it's still as reliable as ever.

It's important to buy a good double electric pump to keep up your milk supply. Read The Nursing Mother's Companion Guide and take a look at Kellymom.com for their section on pumping.

I do it and so can you!

If you're not feeding, you should be pumping, so it's not as easy as it sounds... that whole sleep through the night, and have dad give a bottle, it's more like dad gives the bottle while you pump. Or in my case, I gave the bottle and then pumped.

If you still want to though, I would highly recommend the Medela Pump In Style. It cost me $250, and I've been using it for 9 months now (used it to pump exclusively for 3 months during a medical issue).

That's really as cheap as you can get a GOOD double electric breast pump for. Anything else and you're really wasting your money, from my experience. The little $40 from Wal Mart or whatever is just crap. FOR ME, it may work for other moms, especially for short-term use. Just had to add that in there.

It depends on how often you plan on bottle feeding the baby. If it's just once a day or so (or enough milk to bring with you on errands for those times when you don't feel like breastfeeding in public), I recommend the Medela Swing electric pump, which costs about $150. Do not buy a used pump by the way - I've heard it's not sanitary.

If you intend to have much more bottled milk available, you'll probably need the more expensive ones. Don't get the manual pump unless you only intend to pump once in a while.

Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are right, the best electric ones cost about $250-300. I found mine on Ebay. Used once for $100 and i just replaced the tubes and stuff so I saved money. The ones at walmart don't always work atleast not until the milk supply really comes in. Once my milk came in i could use a handpump (about $20) for occasional feedings. The hospitals also have pumps you can rent for a montly fee. It starts adding up but you know they are clean, work great and come with all the pieces you need and they will show you how to work it properly to get more milk.

You get what you pay for.

The $350 is because you need a good motor. If you intend to express a fair amount of milk, and you skimp on the pump, your supply will not keep up.

The Medela pump in style is a good pump at a fair price. Sorry.

I used the medela breast pump. I absolutely loved, loved, loved it and with my first child, I tried several cheaper pumps and didn't like them at all. I got lucky because my very close friend let me use hers. I strongly recommend the Medela.......I would try and get people to gather up some money for you or something. This one is $250 and is very, very similar to the one I used. The only difference I think is the design of the bag.http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-2/qid=1187586825/ref=sr_1_2/601-7657293-3920905?ie=UTF8&asin=B00065H55W

Sounds like you are thinking of going into the breast milk buisness. How much were you planning to pump out?!

Get a good, simple manual one. Just did a quick search and found one for $40.

Check out La Leche League. You may be able to rent or borrow from them. Local chapters almost everywhere.

You might check through your hospital to see if you can rent a good one, or call the local la leche league. I recommend the lactina. You also might call the WIC office.
