Okay, let me see if I can explain exactly what I am trying to do here. I have 2 laptop computers. One has Windows XP and the other I just purchased yesterday is running Windows Vista. I have a wireless router that they are both connected to. I want to be able to share music between the two computers and I know that it can be done. Keep in mind when you answer that I know nothing about networking and I need the most detailed information you can give me on how to do this. (Don't just tell me what to do... tell me how to do it). Thanks in advance :-)

What music program are you using? Because with iTunes you can automatically share the music without changing any settings on the computer. iTunes can share music on any network in your home. Just install iTunes on both of the laptops. Once installed open up iTunes and keep following the boxes. Once done got to edit below the task bar in iTunes. Scroll down to prefences, from there another dialog box opens. Click on the sharing tab, just click share my library. Click apply and ok afterwards. Open iTunes in the other laptop and do the same. This way you didn't have to mess with any other programs in the laptops. You should be able to share music from one to the other. In case it doesn't you might need to re-boot the laptops in order for the changes to take place.
