Ok. I love art. I love designing. I love computers. I play guitar, and write poetry. I also have 2 novels in the works. I am also developing my singing. Yes, I have alot on my plate, but I manage to do it all. I would like to pursue a degree, but I do not know what to go into. I am getting my basics currently. I would love to sing for a living, (yeah right) or draw and design stuff. Or even write. Any advice?

I have spent 50 years doing visual art. I never have made any money though I am reasonably famous. It seems to me that there is more money for performing arts. There are lots of writers sitting on unpublished material just as visual artists have huge inventories of pictures.
There are minimally talented performers at every party and gallery opening. Of course this is a distorted perception. Many of those performers are performing free. At least they have an audience.
I have pictures in galleries and archives all over the world. As I have few sales, I have no idea if I have an audience or not. Visual art is a very solitary sort of endeavor. There is almost no feedback of any usefulness. Who among my Friends will say they don't like what I make? They are supportive if they like what I do or not.

The people I see doing performance get instant feedback. The people I hear doing music arouse support even if they are terrible. If you love to sing I bet you can build a better life based on that love than you can in drawing, design or writing. ( I know people who began as novelists and are now writing technical articles about software.)
I think do what you love. Do it as well and as often as you can and the money will find you.

Yeah, do what my brother does. Graphic Designer for his day job. Plays in a band nights/weekends. I also have another friend who went that route. His current band is doing well enough now that they've got several cds out, get airplay and go on tour.

Get the design degree so you can get the day job. But maybe do a music minor. And keep up the singing. Who knows? Maybe the design and music gigs could flipflop some day and the singing becomes your career and the artwork a hobby!

What about something like music business and english/journalism? That way, you can still play and sing, but be marketable in the music industry because of your computer and writing skills. This could range working in a music recording studio to designing music computer programs (or evaluating them), or working for a music magazine or newspaper.

To keep up with your playing and singing, you can ALWAYS freelance....playing at area gigs for money. This would also give you good experience in terms of promotng yourself. You may also want to consider taking up some private students as well. Maybe you can sell some of your designs at a local fair for extra cash as well. You may find that you'll have to do various odd-jobs to make ends meet, but the more that you can get your name out into the community, the better.

Hope this helps.
