i really don't like it when people label things , this is black, or this is white, or this is whatever. You liking rock music doesn't change the fact that you are black. You will always be black and experience all the prejudices that go with being black. I think this is a huge psychological obstacle that hopefully can be erased from the black community. It is thinking like this that deters a lot of black people from fully integrating into the American society.

I don't know. When i was in High School there was one White girl on the Step Team and one Black girl on the Dance Team and both of them and they both got that all the time. I don't get it either, though. I guess it's stereotypes. It is stupid, though. I'm White and i enjoy watching reruns of The Fresh Prince and i love Dave Chappelle and listen to some Rap. I'm also a girl who'd much prefer watching a Tarantino movie than a chick flick. Who you are and what you like, etc, should have more to do with your heart and mind, not your skincolor or gender,or anything like that. People should be free to like what they want. But don't worry about what people think or say. Just be yourself and think for yourself and like what you like and be glad you're not one of the "sheeple", but an Individual.

Here's a good question?
Why do they call black people "colored folk"?
When we are born we come out brown or dark,
when we go out in the sun we stay brown,
when we are sick we stay brown,
when we get in a fight we are STILL brown,
when we die we are still brown.
HOWEVER,
When whites are born, they come out purple, beige, blue, and sometimes yellow,
when they go out in the sun, they turn red,
when they are sick, they turn green,
when they fight they turn black and blue,
and when they die they turn gray.
So, how are we called the colored folks when we stay one color? And if we are colored folks, then that would make white people chameleons.
It is amazing that we live in a century that we can bring people back from the dead, carry the internet in a phone, and have vehicles that run on gas and electric but we can't change the ignorance of people like g.o.d (reverse D.O.G.) and vickie. But do we need to change these people, No. It is people like these 2 that have shown us that time must change, they are a part of a balance of life. Besides it is proven that when people belittle others they are trying to make up for their lack of something or keep the attention off of them. So thank vickie and so called god because with out them we would be comfortable and refuse to improve. Now to the question at hand.
The question should not be why, but what. What qualifies as black or white. If black is solely ghetto, smoking blunts, mugging people. Then white is chewing tobacco, small penises, and dingy blondes with big breasts. However, i doubt that is the case. Black is no more a way of life as sex is only to be done in the bedroom at night. The saying the white is right went out when tans became in. Ask your self this question is a red rose grown to be better than all other flowers including other roses? The answer is no. We make the determination on our own preference. Is a penis better because it's bigger or smaller. It depends on the woman and the man who wields it. I have never heard or seen a movie star, a musician, an author request or return the money because they didn't want a race to see, hear or experience their views on things. We are people, some of us want more, some of us are happy with what they have. So when someone says, you act white or black or mexcan or what ever; reply with this, are you ______ enough or can you show me how to be __________ (what ever race i should be), then see how silly they look TRYING to be what they say you are not. To be honest to open yourself up to understand other things than what others say you should be is called courage. How may people out there dress for the approval of the on looker, make-up, dyeing hair, clothes, will the your mate, the world accept you if you were different, are you strong enough to face the world as you and not as they expect you to be?
I am often faced with the same problem. I don't sag, I don't carry a gun, I don't walk around smokin' a blunt, my woman is not a Ho or my *****, and I very rarely listen to rap music(I even enjoy a little country music from time to time).I listen to anything in English that makes sense,I don't use slang such as "My *****", and I don't mug people. The only thing that truly matters, in my opinion, is knowledge, love, and becoming the best friend, lover, father I can be.
Lastly,
It is said, the ultimate measure of a man/woman, is not where he or she stands in the moments of comfort and convenience, but where he or she stands in the moments of turmoil and controversy. So, the question is, where do you stand?

If there is a certain way to act "black" and a certain way to act "white", is there really any chance of us all living happily together?
When I was a teenager I listened to rap a lot, before it became one of the "recognized" genre of music by the general public. And people asked me "are you trying to act black?". Ironicly, several years later Eminem came along and blew that stereotype up.
Maybe you're blowing one up too? Don't give in to your friends remarks. Be who you want to be and do what you like to do. After all, your happiness should be more important than what other people think about the music you listen to.
PS. jprentice3 - "Act american" ??? I'd love to see the definition of that!

I guess because of the ghetto subculture that is made so hip in today's entertainment, that people have ideas about what's black enough and what's not, and all that nonsense.
Funny how we say we want a black president but Obama isn't black enough (hearsay), and Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson are too black (and crazy). True Obama is only 1/2 black but that's beside the point, why do we even care if a president is black or white enough for us. Or if the case may be female or male enough.
In my opinion Obama or Hiliary would make great presidents and vice presidents.

It's probably your hair? And are your friends white? Lol, my white friends said that about me too when I had blonde streaks in my hair. They're just being rude. Don't pay attention to them.

You just be yourself. The people who are saying that are insecure... they want to be like you but feel that have to live to a certain standard. That is so sad. I bet those same people respect you for being yourself.
P.S. Don't listen to that horrible Vickie Butters and that person who calls himself g-o-d. They are all over the message boards saying the same crap just to get attention.
