Cell phones usually stop charging on their own. I've never seen one that charges too much, and most cell phone batteries these days don't have the memory issue of niCad.

I've put a cellphone on a charger every night for more than a year at a time before buying a new battery. Eventually they die, but not from charging overnight, they die from usage over time, heat destroys batteries, the the chemistry causes problems internally.

Newer batteries are being developed using nano technology with more charge capacity, longer life, etc., and in the next few years we should see some great new batteries.

Check out nano technology in batteries as a search criteria using yahoo.com or google.com.

That was true of older batteries like the NiCads. Modern cell phones know when the batteries are full. If your concerned, charge it for 8 hours, but every cell phone I've seen will stop charging when the batteries are full.

Well, the phone people say to let your battery run out as long as possible, then you charge it until the battery is full. Then, you really shouldn't have to charge your phone like every 3 days depending on how much you use it.
