The whole War on Drugs has been a ridiculous failure. We've spent over a trillion dollars, put millions of non-violent people in jail, created drug gangs that are richer than countries, lost huge revenues that could have been collected from legal sales, given cops the right to intrude in what ought to be a private matter, made drugs more dangerous because you can never be sure of what you're getting - all this, and does anyone have a hard time finding something to get high on ? It's a disgrace, and the future will laugh at us as a bunch of fools. We ought to spend that money to help the people who have trouble with drugs - and I include alcohol and tobacco.

I use to "smoke" about 10 yrs ago. Don't any more and have no thoughts about doing it again. I have always thought that the only reason it was illegal was because the government couldn't figure out a way to tax it. They know it isn't deadly because it is prescribed to glaucoma patients and cancer patients, so what is the problem? Some people think that it is a "starter" drug. You smoke pot then you will want to do other stuff to get you higher. Well ... That is all in someones own mind. I did it for years, and never thought of going up in the drug scale. . I guess it is all in how ya look at it.

I find it extremely hypocritical that cigarettes and alchohol, with all their well-known health problems, are legal while marijuana, which has medical uses, is illegal and kept that way using propaganda.
I also dont' believe the government should have the power to control what people do in the privacy of their own home as long as no one is hurt.

i think it should be legal under certain circumstances, similar to talking on cell phone while driving. i think it should be legal to smoke during leisure time, but during times of work, school or driving or operating a motor vehicle it should be prohibited to prevent accidents. as much as i like to smoke while driving on the freeway at night (by the way, driving while being high is the best part), there has to be some safety issue and it is best to not allow US citizens to smoke while driving. other than that, go on and puff puff pass!!

Ask your doctor if he wants to get high before cutting YOU open when you say that.Marijuana is a mood altering drug and can endanger lives if used carelessly.Ask the Conrail engineer who passed 3 caution signals and an absolute stop signal before T-Boning an Amtrak train in Maryland in the 1980's.It's more addictive than alchohol and my father in law did moonshine for a hobby.Would you trust your airplane pilot if he could get high at anytime? The only people who want to legalize marijuana are those that forget the risks to other people.

I think if marijuana plants can be illegal, they can make absolutely anything illegal. They seem to have lost track of the fact that it's a PLANT.

I think both marijuana and prostitution should be legalized and have a hefty "sin tax" on them like tobacco and alcohol do.
As anyone who studied American history can tell you from the lessons we learned during the Prohibition Era - making something illegal only creates more problems than letting it be legal.

I think the prohibition against marijuana (and cocaine) has created some of the most powerful, criminal drug cartels in history. It has cost our government huge amounts of money. It has at least helped to destablize all of latin and south america.
It has created a situation far, far worse than anything that would have come to pass by simply legalizing it.
Legalize it and tax it.
