my friend and i want to take a trip from san fernando valley sometime next week. an idea we're thinking is oceanside, 2 hours away. we're thinking it'd be a nice place to just get away for 1 day, go to the beach, go to legoland or san diego. oceanside is a nice area, right? also, i notice other beaches like san clemente or like dana point are within a short drive. what's the nicest beach there? the most popular/most crowded beach? how are the waves, like whats the beach that has good waves, but not intense ones, since we plan to go boogie boarding

Oceanside is a very nice beach. They filmed some of "Top gun" and "bring it on" around that area. The base is right next door so you will see a lot of Marines. Not sure about the waves, sorry. Mission bay is another popular beach in San Diego. There is a lot going on over there!!

You don,t say what route you are taking. If you are taking I 5, San Clemente is closest, its great, then, three miles further south is San ofre, then 18 miles down the line is oceanside, good surfing by the pier, nice white clean LONG beach, 3 miles S. is Carlsbad, GOOD surfing at the jetty, but the regular hang teners there think they own the ocean for 2 miles out to sea.
If you are coming I 15 to 78, either Oceanside or Carlsbad will be your best bet. You can boogy board to you hearts content, have fun, catch a wave.

Carlsbad will be a better beach scene for you. Oceanside is nice but it is the home of the Marine corps in so cal so it's not a bad place to miss. It is beautiful but not that popular. Instead of going all that way, just go down to Laguna Beach. Absolutely beautiful and there have been many movies and commercials filmed there over the years. Lots of really great restaurants and good music. Beautiful people everywhere and you will save yourself a couple of hours of traffic time.
It's a much better beach scene with good bars and food really close to the beach. Have fun!

any of the beaches are ok for boogie boarding, but wave conditions are flat or extreme depending on weather, of course. san clemente has a nice beach walking distance to restaurants & small shops. san cristianitos beach (exit san cristanitos off of hwy 5 south of san clemente /north of oceanside --park & walk in) is secluded, sandy, no shops or restaurants. oceanside is ok. carlsbad beaches are closer to legoland -- just down the road -- & ok w/ restaurants/shops in walking distance. have fun!!

If I were you I would go to Mission Beach or Pacific Beach. I think they have better beaches/sceneries. Skip Legoland and head straight to Sea World. I bet you would have a lot more fun. Legoland is boring and it's not what you expected. So come here go to the Beach and Seaworld. Perfect Combo.
