on gran turismo its the 787B (in real life this car was only used one's due to it not passing inspection or something) and believe it or not it runs off a damn rotary motor.

OK I am obviously a rotary fan other wise I would not drive an rx7 but her is what I come up with.
the Mazda rx7 is a 2 rotary side port intake peripheral port(hole on rotor housing)exhaust rotary that makes about 160hp non turbo with just 1.3 liters and about 150-200lbs, the intake is on the side to lower the powerband for street use and lower the sound levels vs the peripheral port.
the 787b is a 4 rotor 2.6 liter peripheral port intake and exhaust that was non turbo aswell with a set of adjustable intake runners(adjust the powerband, long runners=more bottom end and short runners=more top end).right at 700hp "thats about 270hp per liter" and only 1831lbs thats 2ls to pull for every 1hp
the Dodge Viper race cars are about 750hp 8 liters and about 3000lbs that is 94hp per liter, and about 4lbs to pull for every 1hp
the advantages of rotary vs a piston motor are
3 moving parts but 787b 5 parts, they make the most power per displacement than any other engine, they are small and compact, they are very smooth running engine, they last longer if maintained they are easy to rebuild, they have higher rpm limits because each turn of a rotor is 3 turn on the crankshaft, so when the engine is turning 15,000 rpm's the rotors are only spinning 5,000. round and round is better than up and down"less strain on engine parts"
disadvantages of rotaries, they run really hot, the seals are not as forgiving as piston engines, they burn more fuel they are much louder, when the motors do blow they usually take out a few housings that would have to be replaces which makes them expensive to rebuild, they are horrible for emissions(reason that the rotary corvette wasn't made, yes Chevy had a corvette concept with a rotary and they are not the only ones)
there is a book for you,lol
so you tell me who you think would win the race......
also most sanctioned(NASCAR, NHRA, IHRA,SCCA will let us run but with really tight rules especially in the exhaust and intake category) racing will not allow rotaries to run, I guess they think we are cheating
