The golden ratio is a special number approximately equal to 1.6180339887498948482. The Greek letter Phi refers to this ratio and, like Pi, the digits of the Golden Ratio go on forever without repeating. It's exact value is:

(1 + sqrt(5))/2

A Golden Rectangle is a rectangle in which the ratio of the length to the width is the Golden Ratio. So:

Length / Width = 1.62
Width = Length / 1.62 = 3 / 1.62 = 1.85 feet
