Last week, i bought my green snake from a petstore and a worker there told me to feed it small crickets....but the manager told me to feed it fish ( i forget which kind). Feeding fish is more comfortable for me, but if crickets are better than fish, i guess ill go with em. also, the worker said that i should feed it once a week.... does that sound kinda weird, or is it just me? ONCE A WEEK!? ,,, anyways, i hope you guys give good advice,,,:]

feed 2x per week fish is fine you can feed guppys or rosies or very small feeder gold fish crickets earthworms and other insects. Im curious as to why you would choose such a delicate snake to have they do not like to be handled and can be very finicky.... good luck

Green snakes are much more like lizards then snakes in both their diet and metabolism. They are insectivores so crickets are the mainstay of the diet and other insects for variety. Their primary natural diet is invertebrates, they do not eat fish. They should be fed at least twice (or even 3 times) a week, 3 or 4 small crickets at each feeding. The crickets have to be half the diameter of their body, they cannot take large size prey like rodent eaters. They will also need a calcium/vitamin supplement dusted onto the crickets about once a week.
Once a week is an appropriate feeding schedule for most rodent eaters but not for green snakes.

Here are a few care sheets, note that none of them recommend fish as part of the diet.

A couple of fish or crickets once a week sounds very correct. Snakes have very slow metabolisms and are perfectly comfortable with weekly feedings. Some large constrictors can go for months without eating!!

With your snake I would try a variety of things. Feeder goldfish or minnows are the best to feed to aquatic snakes, if he likes them go ahead and stick with them, if try some crickets and he may like them better.
