Let's see, you say you are an old widow but don't give any clue as to how old other than you were married for 38 years and lost your husband recently.
My condolances to you and your family ma'am.
Don't become a recluse and suround yourself with yourself.
There is so much of life left not to go out there and live it.
I remember when my mom died her and my dad would have been married for 50 years that November. Well a mutual friend of their introduced my dad to a woman and they hit it off and got married the following year. This was in 1992 and He died in April of 2006. Had it not been for her he probably would have died earlier. But he had helth problems later on in his years. He would have been 86.
What I'm trying to get at is go to a support group if you feel it will help you feel better, and who knows, you might meet someone you would like to get envolved with.
And about a pet ... go with the cat, preferably a female and have it fixed. Now days most states require it if you buy one from an animal shelter.

No, you should not get an animal to keep you company. You should get a pet because you want a pet. What you really need to do is get out in the world and meet some people you have things in common with. Join a group or something. Old isn't how many years you have tucked under your belt - old is how you feel. Just because you were married for a long time doesn't mean you are old. Go out and celebrate your life and your life with your husband. Meet some new friends or reaquaint yourself with some old friends. Just go meet people!

i agree with the person that said don't get a pet because you are lonely you get a pet because you want one. I think you are off to a good start by getting online. Times have changed and now there is the internet you don't say how old you are but many people are not going along with just the old traditional life styles that society has suggested for us based on age or gender or anything else thank goodness for freedom. You could get a cat but if I were you I would join some groups that go on trips and go out to eat like a senior citizen group. You could meet some people and have some fun. If you do not want to do that then get a My Space page and meet some people on line and chat. Just do not give up on life because you can go on and start a new phase of life. You could even join a gym so get out there and find what makes you happy.

if you want a cat than you should get a cat I am very sorry to hear that your husband died. I don't think he would want you to grow old with a cat do you? there is so much out in the world to do if getting remarried is not for you there are many other things to do get involved in a good church, go on a vacation, visit family or just enjoy being with yourself for a while. if being involved with someone is what you need I am single and old also maybe we could be pen-pals

You know I have a Chihuahua puppy that my Grandson and his wife gave to me 2 Christmas ago. My wife is still living thank God, but this puppy is one of the greatest joys of my life. She is so adorable, and full of energy, and affectionate I can hardly stand it. She loves to play, and play, and play, and going for her walks. We have given her own bed, and plenty of stuff toys, and she is loved almost as if she was a human being. I say YES, get your self a pet, and your heart will beam as if you just had a baby. She is my treasure, and believe me I am not kidding a bit. A young female puppy will be one of the best companions you will ever have. God Bless, and Good Luck... PS: I am so very sorry for your loss. A puppy will never take his place, but it will help to fill a void, and help to relief you of some of the pain.
