The Hitler Jugend were part of the 12th SS Panzer Division, which had the youngest divisional commander of the war, of both sides, "Panzer" Meyer. During the critical hours of the opening normandy battle, the 12th SS stood motionless, awaiting for orders that never came. They were part of the strategic reserves held by OKH. As Hitler slept, the 12th could not counter-attack while the allies werre still on the beaches. When they did attack, the allied beach head had already been established.
their toughness prolonged the taking of Caen by the Brits and Canadians. By the Time of the Falaise pocket, their division had been reduced from 12,000 to under 2,000.

The Hitler Jugend group at Normandy weren't a normal Hitler Jugend band, and there were sixteen-year-olds, but I don't think there were any fourteen-year-olds there. Allied troops didn't like fighting against them, because they were young and too stupid to surrender when things were hopeless, so they had to be shot at too high a rate. The average age for the Americans was just nineteen in many units, so the discrepancy was not huge.

No, they were not fighting outside Germany. But they were helping in antiaircraft guns. And at the very end of the war they were fighting against tanks but that mostly around Berlin. There is a pic were Hitler honered a 12 year old boy with the EK. But they recruited 16 year olds to the regular forces.
Greetings from Hamburg, Germany

yeah that's true. I watched a BBC documantary about D-Day and they interviewed a German soldier who turned 18 at D-Day. The documentary said that the soldiers used to defend the beaches were mostly teenagers, lame and old men.
