My daughter was like that . . . a happy camper through everything . . . she's still like that . . . at 26 years old!
She didn't cry when hungry either; just grabbed onto the breast for dear life and nursed like her very life depended on it--once it was offered.
She was a joy to raise and treats me like a rock star now.
Good luck with your little happy guy! ;-)

I think it is just the facial expression they make when they are straining. It might look like a smile, but it's not really.
My son never cried with wet or dirty diapers either. If it's not bothering him and he's not getting a rash, don't stress too much.

lol, mine too, I remember the first time I saw his smile it was almost manic in it's intensity, eyes wide, big open mouth grin from ear to ear, I was so excited that the little one gave me a smile, that I just laughed when I realized he just poo'd they have such tiny little system that when the poop happens it must be such a relief to get it out, and my son is over 4 months old and he still doesn't complain when he is wet or dirty, I think it is because of the diapers, they have so much absorbent power in them that thy do not feel the cold from either. Many blessings with your little one, such a wonder everyday!

He is relieved, it is actually pretty cute. Some children do not respond to being wet or dirty at all. But, he is small and does not realize. Just keep ck on it. One day he will tell you--lol. Enjoy this time and hold him as much as you can, the days pass way to fast. My little one is 22mnth old and she does not care that she is dirty or wet.

My son gets all red and has a "lost" look in his eyes, like he's in a daze when he goes to the bathroom.
And he doesn't cry when he needs a diaper change either. Some babies are just like that. I don't really think there is any explaining it.

Because it probably feels good, lol he might be gassy and that's relief for him. I don't know why kids do that, but I work at a daycare and a lot of kids don't cry when they're dirty.

Have you ever heard of the "Oral-Anal" stage of development in children?
At this age, he gets his pleasure from eating/suckling and defecating.
So there you go.
It feels good, that's why he smiles.

He really isn't smiling, he's grimacing as he pushes.
If you "constantly" check, then he isn't uncomfortable yet. No need to cry when you anticipate his every need.
