It was doing this before, and I replaced the ignition. It worked for a little bit, but then it started doing it again. Sometimes it can take up to 15 frustrating minutes to get the key out. I have had people look at it, but no one knows what is causing the problem. My car is in Park when I try this.. I have tried several different keys, and I do try to move the steering up and down but it rarely helps. I would leave the Key in the ignition, and just lock it and use another key to open the door, but the lights stay on on the dashboard when the key is in the ignition, and this would drain my battery to leave the key in the ignition.

Two possibles, worn key, slopes worn flat and not pushing the tumblers back. Try wd 40 spray directly into lock then insert key and remove several times.

Could be as simple as rotating the steering wheel to remove the load from the antitheft parts under the steering wheel. Turn the wheel back and forth while attempting to remove the key.

If the switch was replaced the old key would no longer work. Who replaced the lock ?? Did you get ripped off ?? The new key would not work your door locks. Getting new keys cut from the old as a pattern only compounds the problem. NEVER put graphite in a lock. It wiil gather dirt. Quit messing with it and take your key to a locksmith. It probably has one of the notches, where the tumblers fit, that is not cut quite right. A simple fix and might even be free if the guy is fair.

Spray some graphite lube in the keyhole and wiggle it a bit. If this doesn't help you might need a new ignition switch. Don't worry...they are not expensive but should be installed by a pro.
