Noticed advice on how to remove a tub according to what it is made of but how can I determine what mine is? Home was built in 1955.

Hello,

I'm the person who answered the question you mentioned.
If you tap the tub with your knuckles, you'll be able to tell whether it's metal (cast iron) or "plastic" (acrylic or fiberglass). If you know that this is the original tub, it is definitely cast iron.

GOOD LUCK :)

they are either fiberglass (which bend if you put enough strength on a push) or cast iron which is coated with porcelain, I don't know if they are made out of anything else. I know we removed a fiberglass one and installed a porcelain one in our bathroom. Got it at Home Depot for 97.00 plus tax.

hope this helps

If you have a cast iron tub, a magnet will stick to it.

if it has white or creamy paint, with chips in it , its
cast iron, in that case you will need a sledge hammer, and eye gear ,
this will be a beast to carry out in one go,
they weight about 350 lbs to 400 lbs.
save the feet, and the faucet, they worth about $50

if it really good condition, sell it , and they take it out for free, just a thought
