I was just wondering how many of you would steal,or have stolen an animal to save it's life.I have stolen ( with help) two kittens in the past two weeks from my ignorant neighbors, they got a kitten and kept throwing it outside with no food or water, and it had a badly swollen foot, and they said they were not going to have her fixed;if she had kittens when she was older, they could just live outside( oh,yes,so then I could feed them and watch them all get sick or killed) So,anyway, they never even looked for the kitten, then a week later, they got another, much smaller one,and threw it out, too, and were gone all day,no food or water for the poor thing ,which was crying on my other neighbor's porch all day,so we stole it,too, and it was SO hungry and full of worms. If they get another,we're going to take it,too. The kittens will be fixed and we will find good homes for them. Do you agree with this,or do you think it's wrong? And,we have NO Humane Society or ASPCA here and the police don't care.

vinnie71975,If I just put food out for them,it still wouldn't stop the cats from getting pregnant or catching some disease, and then there would be even more SICK kittens running around. These people just don't care,or they wouldn't have thrown the kittens out in the first place, and I can't afford to feed many more cats,I've got 12 of my own ,and vet bills are getting higher and higher.AND,I've gone through things like this before with neighbors who were neglecting their dog,and the police WOULD take the report, but they didn't DO anything! "It's not our job."

Cindy ~ Because of budget cuts,we honestly don't have any animal welfare organizattion of any kind in our county. There are two shelters in an adjacent county, but they are euthanizing entire litters of kittens right now, because there is no room for them. So,I really have no choice.I could let the kittens wander around until they get killed or sick,or pregnant, but I can't do that.

Professor Old School ~ I can't leave food out,as I explained before, because I don't want potentially diseased cats or pregnant cats;I can't afford them. And,I didn't actually go onto their property. The first kitten was following aa neighborhood boy and his girlfriend down the street, headed for downtown, and he brought the cat to me because the neighbors weren't home. The second kitten was crying on my other neighbor's porch all day, because they left at 8 in the morning after throwing it outside with no food or water, and it was after 10:00 p.m.and they still weren't home,so that neighbor brought the kitten to me.So,I had accomplices. The weird thing is,the neighbors have been out when I've been out,and they haven't even been looking for the kittens,or asked about them. They have no way of knowing I took thme, because they were not home, and the other neighbors actually brought the kittens to me,They must not be too worried aboout them.

Thats no stealing, thats called animal wellfare. Like they do that with kids too, like if the parents dont feed their kids, their kids get taking away. If the leave the kitten outside, thats not safe because it could get eaten by a stray dog or a wild animal. What your are doing is absolutely right because your neighbors are like torturing those pour kittens.

I would never steal an animal, because stealing is stealing. There are other ways besides theft to deal with a situation like that. I have put out food before and let nature take it's course. If you feed it enough the animal will pretty soon start to stay at your place and not go home if it is not getting anything there. I had a neighbor once that said I stole her cat, but I said prove it, I have never not once physically came onto your property and physically removed your animal. I told her I cant stop the cat coming over here and eating out of the dish and I have to keep food outside for my cat (which I didn't, that was a lie, my cat at the time always came in to eat, but what she doesn't know wont hurt her.) If you don't want that to happen then you need to take better care of your animals. I then told her that if you have a problem with this then we can take it up with the county Humane society, to which she replied keep the stupid thing I don't want it anyway. After that I found the cat a good home.

I would certainly try to get help for the animal, but if I felt that it was an emergency and a matter of life or death, or a case of severe animal abuse, yes, I would steal an animal.
I worked at a vet clinic out here in the country (we also have no humane society or animal rights groups) and we had a guy bring in a dog that was owned by his neighbor. The owners had been gone for two days, and had left the dog chained up outside, with no food or water.
The dog was dehydrated, and had wounds and eye swelling (most likely from being beaten). We took pictures and called the cops. The dog became property of the county temporarily and charges were filed against the owners. The county helped cover vet fees. After the case was finished, the original concerned neighbor that brought her in, ended up adopting the dog. She suffered no permanent damage.
Obviously, your neighbor does not care for the animals, and if they were going to be outdoor cats, there's really no way they could claim ownership. So essentially, you were rescuing a stray, not stealing anything. I think you did the right thing.

Yes i totally agree with u i would steal an animal is it was in bad shape with no food or water or even if it just needed some love but there are many people in this world that buy dogs and cats of even adopt them and then stop loving them and mostly importantly stop feeding them and probobly throw them on the street. but i do agree with u steeling the kittens but also i think u should report your neighbors with the police or some animal company because that mistreating and some abuse to the animal and once the police or animal society now about this they probobly wont let these people get and animals but do something about it dont let the animals now there or any more get harmed. Good luck but dont give up on the animals.! its sad that there are people that mistreat animals in the world but really dontgive up on them what ever it takes or maybe call a local radio station or some animal magazine or a local news station they will probobly be more than happy to do the story!

Im glad you stand up for the animals who are incapable of standing up for themselves. The good thing is you could be saving the kittens lives. The bad thing is that your neighbors might not learn a lesson and keep getting kittens. People have compulsions to keep getting animals even when they tend to run away, and especially with no humane society near where you live, they wont learn a lesson. Try to look online to see if theres anything near where you live that can help you out. Even independent groups sometimes manage to take a stand and act like a humane society and address your city council to help save those abused animals. If the problem continues call the non-emergency police and see what you can do that way.
Great job in looking out for animals. Im glad you are finding good homes for them. Continue to do what you do, and good luck figuring out an option to help prevent your neighbors from getting any other pets.

if you go to the police and tell them you want to report cruelty to animals they HAVE to take your report. Stealing the cats is a BAD idea i know your heart is in the right place but you are still on the wrong side of the law. If the police department wont do anything try the Sheriffs office they may be willing to help you or at least advise you on the right course of action. By the way cats are natural hunters they can feed themselves if left out without food but if your that worried start putting out a big bowl of cat food and a bowl of milk. but quit stealing before you get arrested.

The animal is already dead? What kind of nonsense are you talking about? The animals are raised and killed specifically for human consumption. The meat is not from already dead animals, but slaughtered animals (and brutally slaughtered at that). Of course, one individual person may not have a large impact on the entire meat industry, but your options are to participate in the killing of billions of animals, or to abstain from eating animals. Yes, there are still animals being killed for other people, but there would be more killed if a vegetarian took up eating meat again. Just because the difference isn't blatantly obvious, does not mean it is not a positive contribution towards decreasing the demand for meat.

IN A HEARTBEAT !
I once took two ferrets that were in a cage in someones yard. They had been neglected for a very long time, no food or water and no bedding , it was winter-at the time. I took them to the vet, got them healthy again and found a wonderful home for them .They recently passed away of old age. They were spoiled rotten with toys and cared for w/ such love. And I would do it again if I had to. Good luck, you did the right thing !

if it was off their propery it probably wasnt stealing - as most cities have by laws saying that its ok to pick up "stray" animals and any animal off the owners property is in fact a stray..
what you can also do is take "FREE TO GOOD HOME" kittens and take them to the SPCA - where the SPCA can screen potential new owners to make sure they are good - and will enforce spaying and neutering..
interesting - most serial killers said they started on "free to good home" pets...
yes - some SPCA's do euthanize too when they have too many kittens.. BUT if some are euthanized and others find homes and are spayed and neutered it will eventually end the cycle.. the "free to good homes" ones seldom get good homes - since good homes ALWAYS go to the SPCA first.. and most "free" ones dont get fixed so contribute to the problem down the road..

No. Stealing is stealing. If you have no animal shelter or animal control, which I find hard it to believe that your county doesn't, then you need to petition your local county councilman to get one established. (Just because your city doesn't offer animal control doesn't mean your county doesn't have that service.) I also find it highly unlikely that the police would not respond to such a complaint if there truly is no animal control. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so keep callin'!
Oh, and if your neighbors find out you took the cats, they CAN call the cops on you. It doesn't matter if you were trying to do what you thought was right ... you are breaking the law by stealing.
In the meantime, if you are concerned about these cats needing food and water, GIVE THEM FOOD AND WATER by all means. It's not rocket science. But, no, you should not steal. Take the proper approach to the situation. Don't do something that will backfire on you.
